Arrange offerings in front of the sacred object. Take off your shoes. Prostrate three times to the sacred object, kneel, and join your palms. Pray that all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas consider you. Just as the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas of the past, like well-trained horses, like great elephants, have done what needed to be done, have accomplished what needed to be accomplished, have cast off their burdens, have attained their own benefit, have completely exhausted the bonds of existence, possess perfect speech, have minds that are well liberated, and are wise with well-liberated wisdom, for the sake of all sentient beings, for the sake of benefiting them, for the sake of liberating them, for the sake of making them free from famine, for the sake of making them free from disease, for the sake of perfecting all the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, and for the sake of realizing the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, they have perfectly observed the practice of purification. Likewise, I, named so-and-so, from this time until sunrise tomorrow, will definitely and perfectly take these vows of purification. Repeat this three times. From today, I will not kill living beings, nor will I take the wealth of others. I will not engage in sexual activity, nor will I speak false words.
