《Separation from Four Attachments》Author: Nubpa Rinchen Drak 《Separation from Four Attachments》Author: Nubpa Rinchen Drak 《Separation from Four Attachments》Author: Nubpa Rinchen Drak. Namo Guru. The great Jetsun Sakya said: Those who wish to pursue the great bliss of transcendence must be separated from the four attachments. These four attachments are: attachment to this life, attachment to the three realms of samsara, attachment to one's own benefit, and attachment to things and appearances. There are also four antidotes to these: as an antidote to the first attachment, contemplate death and impermanence; as an antidote to the second, remember the faults of samsara; as an antidote to the third, remember the mind of bodhichitta; as an antidote to the fourth, remember that all dharmas are like dreams and illusions, without self-nature. By remembering and familiarizing oneself in this way, four results will arise: dharma will become true dharma, dharma will become the path, and delusion on the path will be eliminated. By knowing and familiarizing oneself in this way, the result will be that from delusion arises the fully endowed wisdom, and one will attain Buddhahood. First, the antidote to attachment to this life is to remember death and impermanence: think that there is no certainty when death will come, think that there are many causes of death, and think extensively that nothing can help at the time of death. When such a thought arises, a desire to practice the Dharma from the depths of one's heart will come, and at that time, the Dharma will become true Dharma. Then, the antidote to attachment to the three realms of samsara is to remember the faults of samsara: even though there are so many faults in this life, one might think that the Chakravartin, Brahma, Indra, and so on are all supremely happy. But this is not the case, because they too cannot escape the nature of suffering. Even if their lifespan and enjoyment last and increase for many kalpas, they will eventually die and perish, and there is even the danger of being born in the hell of uninterrupted suffering. Therefore, all of them cannot escape the nature of suffering. By thinking and familiarizing oneself in this way, there is one way in which the Dharma becomes the path: because the three realms cannot escape the nature of suffering, a thought will arise that one must pursue the bliss of transcendence, and one will strive to accomplish all paths for that purpose. Even if it arises in the mindstream in this way, if it is not endowed with bodhichitta, and one pursues happiness for oneself alone, one will become an Arhat or a Pratyekabuddha. Therefore, the antidote to attachment to one's own benefit is to remember the mind of bodhichitta: since the three realms are all of the nature of suffering... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is not beneficial to be liberated alone. There is not one of these sentient beings who has not been my father and mother. If they all attain the supreme bliss of transcendence from suffering, I would gladly be born as a hell being for eons. Once this thought arises and becomes habitual, it eliminates the first mistake on the path, which is attachment to one's own benefit. Even if it arises and becomes habitual in this way, if one still clings to reality, one will not attain omniscience. Therefore, one must remember that all phenomena are without self-nature, as an antidote to clinging to things and characteristics. That is, if one clings to the reality of the nature of all phenomena as being unestablished, that is the view of self; clinging to emptiness is the view of nihilism; all phenomena should be regarded as dreamlike. By mixing and meditating on one's own dreams and appearances, one knows that appearances are also unreal. Although unreal, they still appear. By repeatedly remembering and meditating in this way, one eliminates the second mistake on the path, which is attachment to things and characteristics. By eliminating all mistakes in this way and reaching the end, mistakes will arise as wisdom. This is called the source of supreme bliss of the fully accomplished Buddha's body and wisdom, and other inconceivable qualities. This is the teaching on 'Severing the Four Attachments' spoken by the Lord of Yoga, Drakpa Gyaltsen --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
