Collection of Instructions on Mind Training LJ33 རྒྱལ་བ་ཡང་དགོན་པའི་གདམས་ངག་བཞུགས་སོ།། (Instructions of Gyalwa Yang Gonpa) 1-465 ༄༅། །རྒྱལ་བ་ཡང་དགོན་པའི་གདམས་ངག་བཞུགས་སོ།། (Instructions of Gyalwa Yang Gonpa) ༄༅། །རྒྱལ་བ་ཡང་དགོན་པའི་གདམས་ངག་བཞུགས་སོ། །(Instructions of Gyalwa Yang Gonpa) Since conditioned phenomena are impermanent, cut off the attachment to the belief in reality. Since there is no happiness in samsara, generate renunciation and weariness. Since there is no essence in the world, do not trust falsehood. Since your own mind is Buddha, meet its face. Again, 'The shadow of this life has passed, strive for the path of liberation! Worldly affairs are endless, consider the next life! Even happiness cannot last, think about what benefits the next life! Leisure and opportunity are hard to obtain, make good use of them when you have them! It is easy to become familiar with delusion, establish the sentinel of mindfulness! It is skillful to indulge in desires, abandon unnecessary attachments! Non-dharma has no meaning, discard it completely! Death is always behind you, quickly practice diligently!' Again, 'Keep death in mind, it is the key to diligence. Contemplate the faults of samsara, it is the key to reversing attachment from the root. Focus your mind on benefiting others, it is the key to turning everything you do into Dharma. Think of the lama, it is the key to merging your mind with the lama's mind. Train in seeing the environment and beings as deities, it is the key to reversing ordinary attachments. Keep whatever arises fresh, it is the key to going to self-liberation of samsara.' These are the instructions of the six keys. 'The four kings' are: the king of faith is remembering death; the king of practice is abandoning the world with your mind; the king of devotion is seeing the lama as Buddha; the king of realization is the exhaustion of the dependence on dualistic appearances. Again, 'If you want to have all happiness, you must apply the antidote to desire. If you want to be free from all suffering, you must apply the antidote to hatred. If you want to attain unsurpassed enlightenment, you must apply the antidote to ignorance. If you want to succeed, you must apply the antidote to pride. If you want to eliminate all obstacles, you must apply the antidote to jealousy.' In this way, you have received a supplication that includes all the essential points of the profound Dharma, do not make mistakes. Again, establish impermanence as the sentinel of faith, whip virtuous actions with the iron hook of diligence, keep your own mind as the witness of vows, and always observe and reflect on the five poisons inwardly. Again, the root of Dharma is faith, the root of noble behavior is renunciation, the root of benefiting others is compassion, and the root of blessings is devotion. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the extent of enlightenment of the Buddha's root, it is said that there are five roots: The five transformations are: transforming the mind of permanence into the thought of death; transforming the mind of attachment into the thought of illusion; transforming the mind of hatred into compassion; transforming behavior into Dharma practice; transforming conceptualization into view. It is said: By cutting off the recollection of the past, abandon the afflictions of regret; by ceasing to welcome the future, abandon the thoughts of hope and fear; by not fabricating in the present, abandon the biased actions of attachment and aversion; by letting everything arise naturally, abide in the non-fabricated state, which is the introduction to the Dharmakaya, and should be cherished. It is said: Sickness is not truly established, let go of clinging; in the relative truth, karma and its effects are infallible, purify negative karma and obscurations; its essence is beyond mind, abide in a state of non-grasping; the cause of arising is self-grasping, cut off the bonds of hope and fear; its nature is Dharmakaya, look at the face of pain; whatever arises is a blessing, consider whatever happens as accomplishment; do not suffer from any thoughts. Keep these seven dharmas in mind and cultivate them in practice.
