Collection of Instructions on Mind Training LJ1: A Rosary of Jewels for the Bodhisattva 1-1 ༄༅། །A Rosary of Jewels for the Bodhisattva In Sanskrit: Bodhisattva Mani Avali. In Tibetan: A Rosary of Jewels for the Bodhisattva. Homage to the Great Compassionate One! Homage to the Lamas! Homage to the deity of faith! All doubts should be abandoned, and diligent practice should be cherished. Sleep, drowsiness, and laziness should be completely abandoned, and constant effort and diligence should be applied. With mindfulness and awareness, the doors of the senses should always be guarded. Day and night, three times, again and again, the mind should be examined. One's own faults should be proclaimed, and the faults of others should not be sought. One's own virtues should be concealed, and the virtues of others should be proclaimed. Gains and honors should be abandoned, and profit and fame should always be abandoned. One should be content with little desire and be grateful for what is done. Loving-kindness and compassion should be cultivated, and the mind of enlightenment should be stabilized. The ten non-virtues should be abandoned, and faith should always be strengthened. Anger and pride should be subdued, and one should be endowed with a humble mind. Wrong livelihood should be abandoned, and one should live by the livelihood of Dharma. All material possessions should be abandoned, and one should be adorned with the wealth of the noble ones. All distractions should be abandoned, and one should dwell in solitude. 1-2 Idle words should be abandoned, and one's speech should always be restrained. When seeing a Lama or Khenpo, one should respectfully generate service. Towards individuals with the eye of Dharma and sentient beings who are beginners, one should generate the perception of a teacher. When seeing all sentient beings, one should generate the perception of parents and children. Evil friends should be abandoned, and virtuous spiritual friends should be relied upon. Anger and unpleasant thoughts should be abandoned, and one should go where there is happiness. Attachment to anything should be abandoned, and one should abide without attachment. Because attachment does not even attain happiness, it also cuts off the life of liberation. Wherever the Dharma of happiness is seen, one should always strive there. Whatever is started first, that should be accomplished first, for then everything will be done well. Otherwise, neither will be accomplished. Always separated from sin and joy, when a high-minded thought arises, at that time pride should be crushed, and the Lama's instructions should be remembered. When a dejected mind arises, the mind's strength should be praised. Both should be meditated upon as emptiness. When attachment and aversion arise towards an object, one should view it as an illusion or emanation. Unpleasant words... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When hearing rebukes, regard them as echoes in a valley. When harm befalls the body, view it as the result of past actions. Practice in a remote and solitary place, concealing oneself like the corpse of a dead wild animal, and dwell without attachment. Always firmly uphold your chosen deity. When laziness and indolence arise, then鞭策yourself, remembering the essence of your vows. If you see others, speak frankly with a peaceful attitude, abandoning angry expressions and frowns, and always remain smiling. When frequently seeing others, be without stinginess, delight in giving, and abandon all jealousy. To protect the minds of others, abandon all disputes and always be patient. Be without flattery, do not make new friends, and always maintain a steadfast position. Abandon contempt for others and abide with respect. When giving advice to others, be filled with compassion and altruism. Do not slander the Dharma, and rejoice in whatever teachings are favored. Strive day and night, dividing your time through the ten practices of Dharma. Dedicate all the merit accumulated in the past, present, and future to unsurpassed enlightenment. Bestow the merit upon all sentient beings. Always make the great aspiration of the seven-branch prayer. By acting in this way, you will perfect the two accumulations of merit and wisdom. The two obscurations will also be exhausted, making the attainment of a human body meaningful, and you will ultimately attain unsurpassed enlightenment. The wealth of faith, the wealth of discipline, the wealth of generosity, the wealth of learning, the wealth of shame, the wealth of embarrassment, and the wealth of wisdom—these are the seven noble riches, the seven inexhaustible treasures. These should not be spoken of to non-humans. In the midst of many, be mindful of your speech. When alone, examine your mind. The Jewel Garland of a Bodhisattva, written by the Indian Abbot, Glorious Lamp, Glorious Wise Heart (Atiśa Dīpaṃkara Śrījñāna, Ye shes snying po), is complete. May virtue and goodness increase! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
