First, the chapter explaining the formation of samsara from the ground. First, the chapter explaining the formation of samsara from the ground. The treatise called "The Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury of the Great Vehicle's Instructions" is present here. In Sanskrit: Mahāyāna Upadeśa Śāstra Cintā Ratna Koṣa Nāma. In Tibetan: The treatise called "The Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury of the Great Vehicle's Instructions." Homage to youthful Mañjuśrī! In the clear and radiant sky of compassion, adorned by the complete mandala of wisdom and love, possessing the play of granting the desires of limitless beings, I pay homage to the radiating light of benefit and happiness! That which the fortunate ones should strive for is the supreme liberation, the means to accomplish it. Among all, that which is the pinnacle, I shall now clearly explain. The initial clear light is the very essence of the Sugata, the basis of meaning, uncompounded in nature. Primordially pure, like the sky, ignorance and conceptualization are like sudden clouds of obscuration. The latent tendencies of the delusion of grasping and being grasped arise, becoming the tendencies of objects, meaning, and body, obscuring the essence of the luminous nature of awareness, just as clouds obscure the sun in the sky. Qualities do not appear, and the deluded appearances of pleasure and pain arise, just as rain falls from the clouds and crops grow. When the clouds of ignorance, grasping, and mind intensely churn, the rain of virtuous and non-virtuous actions falls, and the result is the very nature of the three realms of samsara. All deluded appearances arise from the three tendencies. The tendency of objects is the container-world and the five objects such as form that depend on it. The tendency of meaning is the eight aggregates of consciousness and the virtuous and non-virtuous actions that depend on them. The tendency of the body is the forms of each of the six realms and the limbs and branches that depend on them. Thus, upon the ālaya, the three tendencies have been established since beginningless time, and having become habitual, they appear in this way in all lifetimes. All those who do not understand are the mind. The three appearances are extremely ignorant in meaning, with many faults, intermingling and excessive. Abandon those bad habits of the maintainers. Thus, from objects arise the conceptual thoughts of grasping, and from meaning arise the conceptual thoughts of being grasped, and these two arise. That body is the box and support of afflictions.

Thus, the unwise, clinging to truth, constantly wander. Even if all these do not exist in reality, they appear as interdependent illusions due to the power of grasping and being grasped. As long as grasping and being grasped have not subsided into the expanse, causality and karma exist, and through them, emanations arise. The mind fabricates, the mind performs all actions. Since it appears to the mind and is examined by the mind, strive to tame the deluded mind. Just as for one intoxicated by Datura, various different appearances arise, all are illusory forms, without reality. Likewise, all the deluded appearances of the six realms, compounded by the deluded mind, know them to be empty images of non-existence. Thus, the nature of samsara is like an image. Examine from what the very beginning arises. Through that, one knows the nature of nirvana. Liberated from existence, one becomes the Lord of the Sugatas. From the "Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury," a treatise on the essential instructions of the Mahayana, the first chapter, which explains how samsara is established from the ground.
