The Sixth Chapter: Explaining the Eon of Destruction and Emptiness The Sixth Chapter: Explaining the Eon of Destruction and Emptiness The aspect of appearance. Desire gods are distinguished by the opening and closing of lotuses. In places where sounds are unpleasant, three root (afflictions) easily arise. Others are uncertain, varying according to karma. If these are summarized, there are only three, which are thoroughly distinguished from form, time, and name. The smallest unit of form is the minute particle, increasing sevenfold. Minute particle, atom, iron, water, rabbit, sheep, ox, sunlight, louse to finger joint. Twenty-four fingers are one cubit, four cubits are one bow, five hundred bows are one yojana, which is considered the distance of a monastery. Eight yojanas are called one krosha. The smallest unit of time is the instant, which is one hundred and twenty parts of one sixty-fourth of a finger snap. Sixty instants are one tatkshana, thirty tatkshanas are one yutsana, thirty yutsanas are one day and night, thirty days are one month, twelve months are one year. The smallest unit of name is the letter, composed of scattered letters. If the origin of name is examined, it is actually scattered letters. Like hair, rope, yak tail, and tender sprout. From name arise words, which are the Buddha's words and treatises. If examined, they are scattered letters that are not connected. From the Great Vehicle's instruction manual, the Treatise of the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury, the Fifth Chapter, the Eon of Abiding. Then, explaining the eon of destruction. After the eon of abiding ends, in the hell realms, those who are not newly born are the beginning of the eon of destruction. Those whose karma is exhausted will be born in the heavens, while those who have not exhausted their suffering in hell will be transferred to other hell realms. Similarly, pretas and animals are the same, and there will be no sentient beings in the three lower realms. The way the human world's four continents are destroyed is that in places where sounds are unpleasant, three root (afflictions) easily arise, and the other three continents are the same. The arising of meditation is that someone, without a teacher, through the power of dharma nature, attains the second dhyana and proclaims: "This is the joy and bliss of peace born from solitude." When the Sound Continent and the other three continents proclaim this, all people attain the second dhyana, die, and are reborn in the Clear Light Heaven, and the continents become empty. Similarly, the desire gods also attain the second dhyana. When they are reborn in the Clear Light Heaven, it is called the emptiness of the desire realm. Then, the form realm is also destroyed.

Thus it is. The sound proclaiming the attainment of the second dhyana, upon hearing and practicing, all the Brahma gods, are born in the Clear Light realm, the Brahma realm becomes empty. Thereafter, the destruction of the vessel world, fire, water, and wind burn, wash away, and scatter. One sun burns grass, trees, and forests, Two suns dry up all lotus ponds and rivers without exception, Three suns dry up all the great rivers, Four suns dry up the great Anavatapta lake, Five suns dry up the ocean of eight yojanas, Gradually making even a single drop of water cease to exist. Six suns burn the great earth together with the snow mountains, Seven suns even to the mountains, continents, and golden foundation, All are burned without remainder. That fire pervades the base of hell, burning and blazing, Upward, being fiercely propelled by the wind, When the immeasurable palaces of Brahma are burned, the sons of the Clear Light gods are alarmed and frightened, the elders proclaim that it has happened before. Thus, after the fire has burned seven times, rain falls from the sky, pervading the three thousand great thousands of worlds, Everything below the second dhyana is destroyed. The ashes of burning remain mixed with water, Thereafter, the wind blows in ten directions, Everything below the third dhyana is destroyed. Infinitesimal dust particles gather in space, That also has four stages in the third dhyana. The sixth chapter, which separately shows the eon of destruction and emptiness.
