Collected Teachings of Ngawang Lodro Drakpa JNLD362: Herein is the practice of meditating and reciting the name of Amitābha (Tibetan: འོད་དཔག་མེད་, Sanskrit: अमिताभ, Amitābha, Immeasurable Light) through the contemplation of the Pure Land. Here, if one wishes to recite the name of Amitābha (Tibetan: འོད་དཔག་མེད་, Sanskrit: अमिताभ, Amitābha, Immeasurable Light) through the contemplation of the Pure Land, one should do as follows: First, recite in this way: Cut off all attachment, hatred, and clinging in your mind, Observe with a clear and discerning mind. All of Samsara is of the nature of suffering, Resolve from the depths of your heart to abandon clinging expectations. (Recite three times) Never deceiving, the ultimate refuge, The guide, the Victorious Amitābha (Tibetan: འོད་དཔག་མེད་, Sanskrit: अमिताभ, Amitābha, Immeasurable Light). From the depths of my heart, with intense devotion, I take refuge, I beseech you to protect me from the fears of Samsara and Nirvana. (Recite three times) All beings, as vast as the sky, are my parents, To lead them to the Land of Great Bliss, I accumulate pure virtuous deeds, Seeking the supreme method to be born in Sukhavati. After reciting the refuge and generating Bodhicitta three times, the method of contemplating the Pure Land is as follows: In an instant, one's own appearance transforms into the pure Land of Great Bliss, Vast and boundless, upon a precious ground, Are nectar pools, lakes with eight qualities, And groves of five precious trees and beautiful flower gardens. There are beautiful mountains and inconceivable palaces, Complete with immeasurable and wondrous splendor. Especially the supreme palace of the Victorious One, The extent of its Dharma hall is beyond words. Great Bodhisattvas follow the mind of the Buddha, Within this inconceivable splendor, The Guide, the Victorious One, manifests miraculous transformations, Upon the Dharma throne, the Buddha is adorned with marks and signs. Free from defilements, the body of wisdom radiates immeasurable light, Adorned with the three monastic robes. From the glorious neck emanates a Brahma-like melodious voice, To the vast assembly of Bodhisattvas and Shravakas on the great earth, According to their faculties, inclinations, and faith, Skillfully teaching the corresponding Dharma doors, Clearly distinguishing between the definitive and interpretable meanings, Constantly bringing forth new joys of abandonment and realization. Furthermore, under the Bodhi tree, With the power of immortal freedom, Simultaneously subduing beings to be tamed with the speech of Dharma, The two supreme sons of the Victorious One, With the great deeds of benefiting beings, And the perfection of the vessel and essence of the pure realm. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like having no distraction, clear in the essence of pure appearance remembrance. Thinking in the mind, the Land of Bliss (Tibetan: བདེ་བ་ཅན།, English: Sukhavati, Meaning: Land of Bliss). Praying from the heart, Victorious Amitabha (Tibetan: འོད་དཔག་མེད།, English: Amitabha, Meaning: Immeasurable Light). Calling with longing, look quickly with compassion. Paying homage with respect, please lead me to the Great Bliss Pure Land (Tibetan: བདེ་ཆེན་ཞིང་, English: Great Bliss Pure Land). Then, the prostration is as follows: The guide of gods and humans, Amitabha (Tibetan: འོད་དཔག་མེད།, English: Amitabha, Meaning: Immeasurable Light). With good deeds of compassion for the suffering beings. I always prostrate and take refuge in you. In this life and the next, compassion is inseparable. Bhagavan Tathagata (Tibetan: བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ།, Sanskrit: Bhagavan Tathagata, Sanskrit Romanization: Bhagavan Tathagata, Literal meaning: Blessed One Thus Gone) etc., I take refuge. Through this, visualizing the vessel and essence of the pure land in mind, with respectful devotion and without slackening, without distracting the mind elsewhere, recite the name of the Tathagata as much as possible. Finally, the dedication is: With this pure virtuous deed, and through the power of merit accumulated by the noble ones and beings. Whenever my body and mind separate, in the bardo, may the Buddha and his retinue come to greet me. Leading me to the pure realm, may I successfully reach the pure supreme place. In the presence of the Buddhas, may I be born miraculously in a lotus. Soon, may I see the joyful face of the supreme guide. May the profound and vast teachings ripen and liberate my mind. May the work of benefiting others bring benefit to beings. May I quickly complete the accumulation of vast merit and wisdom. Ultimately, may I become the sovereign of the victorious ones. This was written in the name of Mati for the need of Lesser Liberation. Herein lies what is called the meditation and recitation of the meaning of the name of Amitabha (Tibetan: འོད་དཔག་མེད།, English: Amitabha, Meaning: Immeasurable Light) through the gateway of pure land mindfulness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
