The Nature of Mind The Nature of Mind The profound view of reality as it is, The supreme state of one's own mind, clear and empty, naked. The kindness of the root guru who perfectly teaches all this, I prostrate with reverence. In that very essence of the union of the Three Jewels, With unwavering faith from the depths of my heart, Towards limitless beings, with the same loving-kindness, Cultivate motivation while keeping it in mind. Then, the very nature of the movement of one's own mind, Let it rest in its own natural state. The state of past, future, and present, Well restrain the movements that follow them. Just by understanding the nature of one's own mind's clarity, In an uncorrected, natural, and free state, Thoughts dissolve on their own, like bird tracks in the sky. In the empty-clear, ungrasping space, seize one's own ground. Unforgetting awareness of the nature of clarity and knowing, And the two, mindfulness that understands the state of mind, From the edge of the mind, without diminishing, There must be someone who continuously makes effort to abide. When abiding in that way, sometimes, Due to being too tense, the upper body becomes constricted. Eye sockets ache, the head throbs, Narrowness and agitation arise, and so on. Expand one's own mind, lighten the appearance, Loosen the grasping and attachment of the mind's entrustment, And look naturally, effortlessly, and comfortably. At that time, sometimes the mind's energy declines, The clarity of awareness weakens and becomes dull. At this time, bring out the clarity of the mind's awareness. Sometimes, if one is too wild with desire, Look at which is more suitable for one's state: resting on oneself or loosening effort. In this way, if one skillfully and well continues to practice, Soon, one will realize the natural state. At all times, abandon the clinging to hope and doubt. If you meditate on the nature of mind, do it in that way. This was written hastily by Mati Kirti at the request of Rinchen Zang. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
