Collected Teachings of Ngawang Lodro Drakpa JNLD149: Praise to the Teacher, the Bhagavan, Through the Twelve Deeds Praise to the Teacher, the Bhagavan, Through the Twelve Deeds With skillful means and great compassion, you were born into the Shakya clan. You destroyed the army of demons that others cannot defeat. A body as beautiful as a golden mountain. King of the Shakyas, I prostrate to you. You first generated the mind of enlightenment, And perfected the two accumulations of merit and wisdom. At this moment, your deeds are vast and benefit beings. You, who have become the protector, I praise you. Knowing the time when the gods need to be tamed, in order to accomplish their benefit. Descending from the gods, walking like an elephant. Observing the lineage, entering the womb of the goddess Maya... Ten months complete, the son of the Shakyas, At the time of birth in the auspicious Lumbini garden. Praised by Brahma and Indra, with supreme names, You were determined to be of the lineage of enlightenment... The young and strong lion among men, Showed skills in Anga and Magadha. Subduing the arrogant men, You made yourself incomparable... In order to make the world conform to the Dharma, In order to abandon faults, with the queens You dwelt together, with skillful means, You ruled the kingdom... Seeing that the affairs of samsara are meaningless, You left home, ascended into the sky, In front of the pure stupa, you yourself Ordained yourself... Thinking to accomplish enlightenment with diligence, On the banks of the Nairanjana River, for six years, You practiced austerities, perfected diligence, You attained supreme meditation... From beginningless time, your efforts have been meaningful, Under the Bodhi tree of Magadha, In an unmoving lotus posture, you manifested enlightenment, You perfected enlightenment... With compassion, you quickly gazed upon beings, In the supreme places such as Varanasi, Turning the wheel of Dharma, the beings to be tamed You placed in the three vehicles... You subdued other evil adversaries, You subdued the six heretical teachers and Devadatta, etc., In the land of Kushinagar, you tamed the demons. The Sage, the Victor, was victorious in battle... With unparalleled qualities in the three realms, In Rajagriha, you displayed great miracles. Universally worshiped by gods, humans, and beings, You caused the Dharma to flourish... 如是示现逝世，进入寂灭。（示现寂灭） 因其真实无惧，为了未来众生获得福德。 于彼处化现众多舍利，将遗体分为八份。（分舍利） 如是，对教法之主薄伽梵（Bhagavan，世尊）所作事业略作赞颂。 愿以此功德，一切众生的行为，皆与善逝（Sugata，如来）您的行为相同。 如来（Tathagata，佛）您身如何，眷属、寿命之量、以及净土如何， 您的殊胜妙好之相如何，愿我等亦能如是成就。 以此赞颂和祈祷您的力量，愿我等所居之处， 疾病、贫困、争斗平息，正法和吉祥增长。 此为大学者圣龙树（Nagarjuna）所作的对导师薄伽梵（Bhagavan，世尊）十二行谊的赞颂。 何时您，双足之尊降生之时，于此大地行走七步， 说道：‘我乃世间至尊’，彼时，智者啊，我向您顶礼。 最初从兜率天（Tushita）而来，进入王宫中母亲的子宫。 于蓝毗尼（Lumbini）园中，释迦牟尼（Shakyamuni）降生，我向薄伽梵（Bhagavan，世尊），天中之天顶礼。 于天宫中，八位天女供养，于释迦族中，青年嬉戏玩乐。 于迦毗罗卫（Kapilavastu）城，迎娶莲花色女为妻，我向这三界无与伦比之身顶礼。 于四城门示现厌离之相，于清净佛塔前剃除须发。 于尼连禅河（Nairanjana）边苦行，我向远离二障之过者顶礼。 于王舍城（Rajagriha）调伏狂象，于广严城（Vaishali）猕猴献蜜。 于摩揭陀（Magadha）证悟成佛，我向智慧之光炽燃者顶礼。 于波罗奈（Varanasi）转法轮，于逝多林（Jetavana）示现大神变。 于拘尸那迦（Kushinagar）入涅槃，我向心如虚空者顶礼。 如是，对教法之主薄伽梵（Bhagavan，世尊）所作事业略作赞颂。 愿以此功德，一切众生的行为，皆与善逝（Sugata，如来）您的行为相同。 此乃勇士（Hero）所作。 导师薄伽梵（Bhagavan，世尊）十二行谊赞

Thus, he passed away and entered into Nirvana. Because of his true fearlessness, for the sake of future sentient beings to gain merit, In that very place, he emanated many relics and divided his body into eight parts. Thus, a brief praise of the deeds of the Bhagavan, the master of the teachings. May the virtue of this cause the conduct of all beings to be like the conduct of the Sugata himself. Tathagata, how is your body, your retinue, the measure of your life, and your pure land? How are your excellent and auspicious signs? May I and others become just like that. By the power of praising and praying to you, in the place where I and others dwell, May disease, poverty, and strife be pacified, and may Dharma and auspiciousness increase. This praise of the twelve deeds of the teacher, the Bhagavan, was composed by the great teacher, the noble Nagarjuna. When you, the chief of bipeds, were born, you took seven steps on this great earth, And said, 'I am supreme in this world.' At that time, wise one, I prostrate to you. First, you came from the land of the gods in Tushita, and entered the womb of your mother in the royal palace. In the Lumbini grove, the capable one was born. I prostrate to the Bhagavan, the god of gods. In the celestial palace, you were worshipped by eight mothers. In the Shakya clan, you played youthful games. In Kapilavastu, you took the lotus-colored girl as your wife. I prostrate to the body that is unparalleled in the three realms. At the four city gates, you showed the aspect of renunciation. In front of the pure stupa, you cut off your hair. By the banks of the Nairanjana River, you practiced asceticism. I prostrate to the one who is free from the faults of the two obscurations. In Rajagriha, you tamed the mad elephant. In Vaishali, the monkey offered honey. In Magadha, the capable one attained perfect enlightenment. I prostrate to the one whose wisdom blazes. In Varanasi, you turned the wheel of Dharma. In Jetavana, you displayed great miracles. In Kushinagar, you passed into Nirvana. I prostrate to the one whose mind is like the sky. Thus, a brief praise of the deeds of the Bhagavan, the master of the teachings. May the virtue of this cause the conduct of all beings to be like the deeds of you, the Sugata.
