Ngawang Kunga Lodro's Teachings NKL113: Propitiating the Torma of Mahakala Propitiating the Torma of Mahakala Om Swasti! Initially, regarding the performance of the Mahakala Torma ritual, I considered performing it on the 15th day of the fourth month of the Fire Ox year. Subsequently, from the Earth Tiger year to the Iron Tiger year, it was necessary to perform it, as indicated by the prophecy of Jamyang Palden Chokyong (འཇམ་མགོན་དཔལ་ལྡན་ཆོས་སྐྱོང་, Glorious Protector of the Dharma). Therefore, following the previous custom, it was held regularly in the fourth month. Thereafter, it seems permissible even if it is not held regularly. These ritual texts and practical methods are of great importance to the monks of Bancangpa (བན་ཚང་པ་), both in the short and long term. Since this fixed fourth month is known as the 'month of the stinking breath of mantra practitioners,' it is necessary to avoid performing the Torma ritual. Therefore, it was suggested to move it to another month. After calculations, from this Earth Dog year onwards, for as long as it lasts, the Mahakala Torma ritual can be performed from the 26th day of the third month of the Mongolian calendar to the end of the month, or from the 6th to the 10th, regardless of whether there is a Ganachakra or not. From the 6th to the 12th of the fourth month, or from the 26th to the 2nd of the fifth month, the Damtsik Kangso (vow fulfillment ritual) is performed. From either the 14th or 15th of the fourth month, if a great gathering of Guhyasamaja is held, it seems appropriate in all respects. Therefore, this arrangement was written on the 2nd day of the third month of the Mongolian calendar in the Earth Dog year by Sakya Kunga Lodro (དཔལ་ས་སྐྱ་པ་ཀུན་བློས་). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
