Collected Teachings of Ngawang Kunga Lodro NKL54: The Source of the Emanation of the Jewel Master The Source of the Emanation of the Jewel Master Svasti! With wisdom that sees everything clearly and as it is, you are the eye of all beings; among the thousand eyes and matted hair, your feet are supremely beautiful. Who in this world is not moved by your beautiful form? Comprehending the Dharmadhatu, which is beyond existence and non-existence, you are the king of teachers, teachings, and holders of the teachings. The history of the form of our teacher, the incomparable Shakyamuni Buddha, is as follows: When the teacher was about to pass into Nirvana, Manjushri asked, 'Now the teacher is alive, teaching the Dharma, subduing heretics, and creating fields of merit. If you pass into Nirvana, who will do these things?' The Buddha replied, 'My excellent Shravaka disciples will compile the teachings, thereby cutting off doubts. The scriptures and the Sangha will remain as sources of merit. The Six Groups are emanations and will go to peace. To subdue the heretics, create a representation of me.' Then, three rays of light emanated from the Buddha's face, touching Brahma, Indra, and Vishnu. They prostrated and requested the construction of three supports. Vishvakarman agreed to be the craftsman, Maitreya took on the role of treasurer, and Vajrapani and the seventy-five protectors of the pure realms agreed to be the protectors. First, Brahma built a round stupa made of heavenly jewels, one cubit high, the color of smoke, filled with the relics of the Buddhas, and placed it in Oddiyana. The Dakinis circumambulated it seven times and attained supreme accomplishments. This is the support of the Dharmakaya. Vishnu created a Vairochana image from Naga jewels, as vast as Mount Kailash, dark blue in color, with its body submerged in the ocean, only the navel and above visible, extending eighty yojanas. Praying to this image causes a rain of rice to fall for twelve hours day and night. This is the support of the Sambhogakaya. Indra, the lord of the gods, used five heavenly jewels (Indranila, Marakata, red ruby, great red ruby, exquisite jewel), five human jewels (gold, silver, pearl, coral, amber), and one hundred and one jewels shared by gods and humans, and simultaneously created three images of the Buddha at the ages of eight, twelve, and twenty-five. These are the materials used for construction. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Among these sacred objects, there are one hundred and eight small Thubpa (Shakyamuni Buddha) images, which were created as supports for incarnate beings. Among them, the most famous is the one known as 'Thubpa Özer Gyed' (Thubpa Emitting Light). 3-844 Although this image is slightly smaller in size than the Jowo Rinpoche (Shakyamuni Buddha image) in Lhasa, its blessings are no less powerful. It is said that when this image was enshrined in a monastery in eastern India, the monastery caught fire. At that time, Jowo Atisha (Venerable Atisha) invited this image out by meditating on the Samadhi of Water. The image spoke and said, 'Atisha, one must use fire to counteract fire.' From then on, this Thubpa image became known as 'the Speaking Thubpa' and 'the Fire-Resistant Buddha.' Later, Palden Marmey Zay (Glorious Lamp Maker) brought this image to Tibet and gave it to the Kadam Geshe Chen-nga-wa (Kadam Good Spiritual Friend Chen-nga-wa). This image was kept in the monastery until the time of Gyalsay Kunga Dhondup (Incarnation of Avalokiteshvara, descendant of the Khon lineage). Gyalsay Kunga Dhondup foresaw the future and presented this precious image, along with the Prophecy Tara (Lungten Dolma, Prophecy Tara Image), as a gift to the great Sakya master, mantra holder, omniscient Ngawang Kunga Sonam Drakpa Gyaltsen Pal Zangpo (Ngawang Kunga Sonam Drakpa Gyaltsen Pal Zangpo, Holy Name). Therefore, this image was enshrined in the prominent Lhakhang (Temple) of the Sakya school, becoming the main support. Praying to this image will bring unsurpassed temporary and ultimate benefits. In general, this is an embodiment of the Buddha; in particular, this image was built by three outstanding patrons, the lords of the gods. 3-845 These main supports of the Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, and Nirmanakaya have been personally blessed by the Buddha himself and are no different from the actual body of the Buddha. Therefore, in order to universally benefit all beings, and especially for the sake of your own temporary and ultimate wishes, please be sure to pray sincerely before this image, offer offerings, accumulate merit, and perfect the two accumulations. These words were spoken in a moment by Sakya Kunga Lodro. May all be auspicious! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
