A Song of Listening and Gathering Faithful Ones ༈ A Song of Listening and Gathering Faithful Ones Alas! Listen and gather, faithful ones, Reflect on the impermanent, illusory nature of all things. In these degenerate times, due to the force of karma, Thinking and thinking about actions brings weariness. With each passing year, times worsen, The clamor of war is louder than thunder. Many taxes and corvées have no end, Each more oppressive than the last, all suffer. Great is the suffering of fearing defeat and hoping for victory, Without freedom, hired soldiers fight the enemy. Who will enjoy the wealth accumulated? There is no certainty. Subservient in mind and heart to many officials, Hoping for benefit, only harm results. Many strong and weak people exchange places, Friends of one mind are separated from friends. Heroes give their lives to the enemy, Whatever actions are taken become sinful. Hoping for ease tomorrow or the day after, But unease is even worse than before. Life ends and suffering ceases in death, When the noose of the Lord of Death touches, Driven by karma, one goes without delay. Even if one remembers Dharma, one cannot stay. Facing death, there is no remedy, alas! Knowingly clinging to food and wealth, Wealth accumulated through many schemes and deceptions, At that time, one has no freedom to take it along. Thinking thus, seek the Dharma from the heart. Those loving friends, family, and relatives, Unable to part, hearts attached to each other, At the time of death, there is no way to avoid separation. Thinking thus, seek the Dharma from the heart. Brief happiness is like a dream, It is impermanent, changing in an instant. If you wish to attain unchanging happiness now, Is it not proper to practice the true Dharma? Now, these activities of life and samsara, There is not one thing that lasts forever. All is impermanent, turning to death, Knowing and remembering this makes the mind tremble. The venerable lama is impermanent like a rainbow fading, Ruling officials are impermanent like dissipating mist. Close relatives are like morning stars, Wealth and possessions are like honey from bees. Power and glory are like autumn leaves, Life is fleeting like lightning in the sky. The mind is like a small bird about to fly from a treetop, Such examples of impermanence are endless. Thinking thus, seek only the Dharma from the heart, Avoid non-virtuous actions and sin like poison, Strive as much as possible in virtuous deeds. The father lama is the ultimate

May it be auspicious! Take the Dharma instructions as the ultimate wealth, accumulate merit as the field for spreading goodness, and build a palace of loving-kindness and compassion as the ultimate abode. In any activity, whether Dharma or worldly affairs, adhering to good principles and having a long-term vision, along with a sense of shame and caution, is the best code of conduct for this life and the next. If one does not value the sense of shame, is unstable and easily swayed, and faith, devotion, and respect are prone to change, then one will encounter demons in this life and the next. In short, at all times, rely on the infallible Three Jewels, for they are the best refuge in this life and the next. From the depths of your heart, cultivate faith and devotion to the Guru, carefully consider the infallibility of karma and its consequences, and tame your own mind, which is the root of all Dharma. Uphold your vows meticulously, without any deviation, and practice diligently without distraction. In general, wouldn't it be better to act now so that you have no regrets at the time of death? If you always say you will do Dharma tomorrow, your life will be exhausted. Do not be swayed by external circumstances, but focus on the Dharma. If you do not remember impermanence and death, the thought of practicing Dharma will be postponed. Therefore, remember impermanence, and everyone should strive to practice the sublime Dharma! This was spoken by Tsewang Norbu, born in Kathok, Dokham (mdo khams kaH thog), who wandered in all directions, at the secluded Gau Lhading (gA'u lha sdings) in Mangyul Gungthang (mang yul gung thang), at the request of faithful individuals, as a song to generate renunciation due to impermanence. This is a song called "Please Listen, and Faithful Ones Gathered Here."
