Through the power of glory, King Vaishravana transformed into a human form and said to the daughter: "This one does not seek desires, but is a Bodhisattva named Manjushri Kumara, who fulfills the wishes of sentient beings and gives away everything requested." The daughter thought, "Then, if I beg for this garment, he will give it." So she begged for the garment. He said, "If you enter the path to enlightenment, I will give you the garment." The daughter asked, "What is enlightenment?" He taught the meaning of selflessness and equality, and five hundred thousand sons of gods generated the supreme mind of enlightenment. Two hundred beings, including men, women, boys, and girls, who followed the golden-topped girl, also generated the supreme perfect enlightenment mind. Sixty gods and humans obtained the pure Dharma eye. The golden-topped girl, radiant with light, prostrated with five limbs, took the foundations of training, and with superior intention generated the supreme mind of enlightenment, vowing to diligently tame sentient beings through knowing that afflictions are without inherent existence, and beginning from the Bodhisattva's freedom from afflictions, she questioned Manjushri. Manjushri also taught the profound Dharma that realizes emptiness and possesses skillful means. At that time, the Bhagavan was walking a long distance with Ananda in a medicinal grove on the slope of Vulture Peak Mountain. As they walked, the sound of Manjushri giving praise spread throughout this great thousandfold world, and the great earth shook in six ways, arousing gods, nagas, yakshas, and others, who gathered before the Bhagavan and asked to whom this sound of praise was given. Manjushri said, "It is for teaching the Dharma to the golden-topped girl." Then, all the gods and others gathered before Manjushri, and King Ajatashatru and others who had gathered saw that the golden-topped girl, radiant with light, was free from the bonds of attachment and that her senses were pacified, seeing that no one was attached to her as before. Manjushri asked the daughter, "Where have you placed your afflictions?" The daughter said, "All afflictions abide in the realm of Dharma, unarisen and un-

Without inversion, I have realized the nature of afflictions. And so on, Manjushri also taught that the nature of afflictions is Bodhi. The daughter Golden Supreme Light also used the wisdom of accumulating her own merits to view form as the moon in water, etc., and taught the Dharma, causing 120,000 beings to generate the mind of unsurpassed Bodhi. Five hundred gods and humans obtained the patience of non-arising Dharma. Thirty-two thousand beings obtained the pure Dharma eye. That girl also, because she most delighted in hearing the Dharma, obtained the forbearance that accords with all Dharmas, and then requested ordination from Manjushri. Manjushri said: Sister, shaving the head is not the ordination of a Bodhisattva, but striving to cut off the afflictions of all sentient beings is the ordination of a Bodhisattva. And so on, not being attached to one's own benefit but doing things for the benefit of others is the conduct of a Bodhisattva's ordination. And he taught: Daughter, ride in a chariot and ripen the merchant's son Fearful One for the sake of arousing love in him, and that will be your ordination and full Bhikshuni vows. Thus, teaching the Dharma, he also blessed the merchant's son Fearful One, etc., who had not yet become vessels, so that they would not hear anything at all. Then, most people thought: How can detachment and attachment exist together? That girl, knowing their thoughts, said: Friends, there is no fault in a Bodhisattva who is detached from desire dwelling together with sentient beings who have desire, and they can also subdue sentient beings who have desire. Similarly, it can be extended to hatred, etc., and after teaching the method of subduing afflictions, she prostrated at the feet of Manjushri, rode in a chariot, and went with Fearful One to the garden to play. Then, that girl used Fearful One's lap as a pillow, and her body aged and approached death, becoming rotten and emitting a foul odor, and from the pores flowed blood and pus and foul odors, etc., showing the nature of impurity, causing the merchant's son Fearful One to be startled and frightened, at which point, through the power of Manjushri

Having exhaled from the tree, and urged to go to the Buddha's presence, and seeing that the time for taming had come, the Tathagata also emitted rays of light to illuminate, abandoning the decaying corpse, arrived at the feet of the Buddha to seek refuge, and the Victorious One taught the Dharma, thus giving rise to forbearance in accordance with the Dharmas. Thus, knowing that the merchant's son had been tamed, the daughter Golden Pinnacle Light, surrounded by about five hundred daughters of gods, went with musical instruments and songs to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: This daughter of a prostitute, Golden Pinnacle Light, was formerly Manjushri Youth, and was placed in complete enlightenment, and she obtained forbearance in accordance with this. The merchant's son, Fearful Glory, I had previously placed in unsurpassed enlightenment. He also heard the Dharma from me and obtained forbearance in accordance with it. This daughter, Golden Pinnacle, after ninety-two hundred thousand kalpas, in a kalpa called Jewel Origin, in a world called Jewel Origin, there will appear a Tathagata called Jewel Light, and the enjoyment of that field is like the gods of the Thirty-Three. There, no other jewels will appear except for the jewels of Bodhisattvas. The lifespan of that Tathagata will be immeasurable. After he becomes a Buddha, this Fearful Glory will become a Bodhisattva, Virtue Jewel Light, and he will hold the treasury of that Tathagata's Dharma. That Tathagata will prophesy, 'This will attain enlightenment after me,' and prophesy that this will become the Tathagata Jewel Radiance, therefore the world shook in six ways and was covered by great light, and hundreds of thousands of beings generated the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment. In this way, the skillful means of taming those with attachment are inconceivable.\ ༈ Furthermore, in the Manjushri Emanation Sutra, when the Blessed One was dwelling in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika's Garden, together with a large retinue, the son of the gods, Light, said to Manjushri Bodhisattva: The Bodhisattvas'

When asked, what are the deeds of Mara? It was said: Son of the gods, as many deeds as arise, so many are the deeds of Mara. As much as there is craving, wrong views, and attachment, and as much as there is desire, consciousness, arrogance, and discrimination, so much are the deeds of Mara. Furthermore, attachment to the mind of enlightenment and generosity, etc., is also shown as the deeds of Mara. By teaching the excellent Dharma of the union of skillful means and wisdom, eight thousand sons of the gods generated the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment. Five thousand Bodhisattvas obtained tolerance of the unborn Dharma. The Bhagavan praised Manjushri, saying, "Well done! Well done!" Many sons of the gods asked: Manjushri, are you pleased that the Tathagata has praised you in this way? Manjushri replied: Just as an emanation praises an emanation, because there is no inherent nature, there is no attachment, etc. When these profound Dharmas were being taught, the sons of the gods said: Manjushri, it is amazing that the evil Mara does not come here when such words are spoken, so that the eyes do not have to exert themselves. Not long after saying these words, the evil Mara manifested a great cloud in the sky above, and a great roar arose. The retinue was frightened and wondered, "Whose voice is this?" Then, the Bhagavan said to Manjushri: Manjushri, have you seen the transformation of the evil Mara? Manjushri replied: Bhagavan, I have seen it. Sugata, I have seen it. At that time, Manjushri, who had become a youth, bound the evil Mara with a firm binding and caused him to fall to the ground. The Mara cried out, "I am bound with a firm binding!" Manjushri said: Evil one, there is another binding that is even firmer than this, which always binds you, but you do not understand it. What is it? It is the binding of pride in thinking "I," perversion, craving, and views. These bind you, but you do not know it. The Mara said: Manjushri, release me, and I will go to my abode. I will no longer do the deeds of Mara. Manjushri said: Evil one, if you must do the deeds of the Buddha, why should I release you? The Mara said: I
