Adorned with teaching the Dharma, sitting on that cushion, is an Arhat. The Blessed One also goes to teach the Dharma in an adorned manner. Thus, etc., he spoke verses, and it became the object of a Bhikshu. Later, his brothers also renounced and attained Arhatship, those five were known as the five groups close to the five parts. Abhirya (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning in Chinese) is the irreversible one, the son of the Brahmin Pilindra (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning in Chinese) of Badsa in Rajagriha, i.e., the son of the guardian of power, who renounced in the presence of the king and attained Arhatship, and was known as the irreversible one. When he said to the Ganges River, "Good woman, stay!", it stopped flowing. When those who were offered as attendants by the embodied one were harmed by thieves, he protected them with a fence of magical power, so he was known as having great magical power. These are abbreviated from the "Lives of the Elders" by Chim Namkha Drakpa. The histories of these elders are clear in the Sutras and Vinaya. The emblems of the elders, the benefits of seeing those emblems, the number of Arhats in their retinue, where they reside, how they went to China, etc., and the benefits of praying are all in that document. It is said that the source is the prophecy of Maitreya, which Klu-me found in the Chinese archives, and the Sutra of the Deeds of the Noble Virtuous Friend, and the Sutra of Inviting the Elders, and the Sutra of the Prophecy of the Elders, which were translated earlier and later, and the letter of Tang Juju King inviting the Elders, etc. In the offering ritual of the Elders, the retinue, emblems, and places of residence are also clearly stated. Although I wanted to write the history of the Elders in detail, I could not find a model, so this is extracted from Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche's bilingual compilation, which contains a complete biography, and it is written in about a thousand pages, may it be virtuous!! A Brief History of the Sixteen Great Arhats.
