Oṃ. Therefore, presuming to be without the stain of faults. This means that, having seen things in this way, in this treatise, abandoning self-fabrication and bias, the meaning of the sutras and tantras is determined as it is, from the well-spoken words of many great scholars and accomplished ones. As it is taught, with a strict mind, through investigation and examination, without contradicting the sutras, tantras, and instructions, it is arranged in one direction. For that reason, presuming that there is not even a trace of the stain of faults such as misinterpretations due to not understanding or misunderstanding, therefore, urging the fortunate disciples who follow this supreme path to hold it as a treasure of heartfelt faith. Fourth, dedicating the merit gained from it: May all beings quickly attain the state of Kuntuzangpo through this merit. This means that this wonderful treatise, which fully and without error contains the ocean of sutra and tantra teachings, has become the sole entrance where all fortunate ones rejoice, and clearly defines the three vows. Through the accumulation of merit arising from composing this treatise, the collection of virtues reaching to the sky, may all beings pervading the sky be inseparable from the five kayas and five wisdoms, and quickly attain the state of the self-arisen primordial Buddha Kuntuzangpo. Finally, stating the colophon of how the treatise was composed: This, which is divided into sections by the words "Distinguishing the Three Vows," was composed by the Ngari Pandit Pema Wangi Gyalpo, who arose in the southern region of the land surrounded by the Himalayan mountain range, with the intention of certainty arising. May the doctrine of the spontaneously perfect Great Perfection be able to accomplish its activities in all directions and times. This means that, as it is said, this treatise called "Distinguishing the Three Vows," regarding the establishment of the author's name, as Thumi Sambhota, the guide of the land of snow, said: "From letters come names, from names come words, and words reveal meanings." Likewise, from the collection of letters comes names, from the collection of names comes words, and from the collection of words comes the categories of meanings. Here, it is shown from the perspective of words, this collection of treatises, is an excellent treatise possessing five chapters, with concise words and condensed meaning.

This work, which has become a treasury of many pith instructions, was completed without any obstacles, and when it reached its conclusion, the gods of the sky showered flowers of praise with their clairvoyance, thus it was completely accomplished. The name of the author of the treatise, and the special place where it was written, is that in the land of Tibet, surrounded by cool snow mountains, specifically in the southern region of Ngari Lowa Mathang, there arose, with the special qualities of virtue, with wisdom and compassion, the excellent intention of seeking the unsurpassed enlightenment that will surely liberate from the two extremes of samsara and nirvana. The Ngari Pandit, Padma Wangi Gyalpo Dorje Drakpa Gyaltsen Pal Zangpo, who is skilled in the means of accomplishing the benefit of others, and who has mastered the five major and five minor fields of knowledge, has recorded the meaning of the scriptures, including commentaries, as they are. This is truly worthy of being taken as an ornament for the crown of the head by those who desire liberation. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: 'Whoever, with a mind free from distraction, speaks only of the Victor's teachings, in accordance with the path to liberation, that too, like the words of a sage, should be taken on the crown of the head.' Therefore. May the merit of this composition enable all the realms of the universe, gathered by the ten directions and three times, to universally uphold the teachings of Sutra and Tantra, and especially the teachings of Atiyoga, the Great Perfection of Natural Perfection, which has reached the pinnacle of all vehicles, and may they be able to accomplish great deeds through the door of explanation and practice. Making such aspirations is the most excellent of all dedications, for it is said that all aspirations are included in the dedication to fully uphold the Dharma. As it is said in the Samantabhadra's Prayer: 'Holding the sacred Dharma of all the Buddhas, illuminating the conduct of enlightenment everywhere, purifying the conduct of Samantabhadra, may I practice in all future kalpas.' This is in accordance with that principle. Again, it is said: Thus, the supreme tradition of the Fourth Teacher, having opened the path of goodness in the beginning, middle, and end, this universally pervading wish-fulfilling jewel mine, spread out flat, this is Trisong.

Who else but you? Initially, virtue is to restrain misdeeds through the three doors. In the middle, virtue is to accomplish with the welfare of others as the foundation. Ultimately, virtue is the spontaneous accomplishment of both purposes. There is no deception in exhaling a great breath in the realm of victory. Even I, in my ignorance, knowing such a principle, Have slightly cleaned your excellent path. May this lineage, without error, be clear until the fifth guide. In this tradition, the profound custom of teaching, listening, contemplation, and practice, Even at the end of the five sevens, may it be revived without decline. Through the auspicious fortune of benefiting and bringing happiness to the world, May all realms be filled with auspicious glory! Thus, this treatise, which definitively establishes the three vows, was received from the presence of Orgyen Chöjor Gyatso, whose kindness is unparalleled, when I was twelve years old. I received detailed ripening instructions based primarily on the oral transmission of Dzogchen Paltrul Jigme Chökyi Wangpo. From this, there was something like a forgotten note-commentary written immediately by myself. Later, when I examined it closely, although there were no errors in the meaning of what was expressed, the words used were sometimes too many or too few, resulting in faults like repetition, and sometimes the meaning of the words could not be found, so it was not balanced. In general, at that time, I was young and my knowledge of learning was weak, so I could not produce something easy to understand, easy to carry, and complete in meaning. Therefore, with the intention of not increasing the textual lineage in the future, I became distracted by many other causes and gradually neglected it. Later, some lamas and tulkus from my own group of students said that this commentary of ours would definitely be easy to understand and complete in meaning. Some people repeatedly urged me to complete it. Now, when printing the rituals and supporting teachings of the early translation Kama, I hope that including this commentary on the vows will be of some benefit to ignorant people like myself. Therefore, Jigdral Yeshe Dorje, a lay practitioner of the Shakya clan, at the age of eighty-one, in the Wood Mouse year, in the wisdom part of the tenth month of the Hor calendar, composed this in the western Joyful Garden, while examining the trees in detail. The scribe was the intelligent Sonam Norbu, who was near to me.

Various original drafts have been completed. In order to perfectly continue from the good imprints of previous joy, it was done by the self-taught Monpa mantra practitioner Kunzang Wangdu, without any懈怠. May this cause the supreme secret Lotus lineage to never decline, but to develop and flourish more and more, becoming the sacred condition for constant prevalence and spontaneous accomplishment.
