Uḥ. Even the immeasurable Sūtras and Tantras are all gathered into the path of one individual, without any omission. However, some, although entering into Discipline, do not know how to gather Bodhicitta. Similarly, some, although entering the Bodhisattva Vehicle, consider all Mantras and so forth to be contradictory and do not know how to gather them into one. For the benefit of these, I will show how one individual practices. As it is said in the Great Perfection, Resting the Mind in its Natural State: Nowadays, the minds of ordinary people are impure, so they consider the paths of Mantra and Pāramitā to be contradictory and do not know how to gather them into one. Therefore, these are people with biased eyes. Here, I will gather the profound meaning of the Vehicle of Cause and Effect and explain the method of practicing it. As it is said. Secondly, this treatise is compiled from the excellent explanations of many wise and accomplished ones, with a rigorous mind. Therefore, I presume that there is no stain of error. May all beings quickly attain the state of omniscience through this merit! As it is said. There is no misunderstanding or wrong understanding in this treatise, because it arises from the power of hearing and contemplating the words of the Sugata and the treatises of many wise and accomplished ones. Therefore, may all sentient beings quickly attain the state of the All-Knowing Buddha through this merit. As it is said. The Uttaratantra states: Thus, relying on faith, scripture, and reason, for the sake of one's own purity and for the sake of following those who have faith, virtue, and wisdom, this is explained. Thus it is well said. Thirdly, thus, this division of the words of the Three Vows, is also composed by Padma Wangi Gyalpo, a treasure revealer who definitely arises in the southern direction of the land surrounded by a range of snow mountains. Tibet also has three great regions, and this was composed in Upper Ngari. Thus it is complete. Usually, there are three "Virtuous" at the beginning, middle, and end, but here in the Three Vows, there are only two "Virtuous". This is because, as it says in the Jewel Mine of Composition: For that which is extremely meaningful, a word should be repeated twice. Or, virtuous because one's own purpose, the Dharmakāya, is accomplished, and virtuous because the Rūpakāya is accomplished for the sake of others.

It is said in the White Lotus Sutra that these are two. Thus, in the vast ocean of the Buddha's scriptures, the three vows of good speech, like the king of seven horses, are the supreme guide for all beings. Extremely bright, the meaning of the words is unobstructed, and the light of the clear light spreads to the ends of the directions. May the lotus of wisdom of those with good fortune bloom greatly, illuminating the land of liberation. The footprints of countless Buddhas who have gone before and after are the essence of the practice of all cause-and-effect vehicles. It is the supreme path to liberation and enlightenment. This definitive treatise on the three vows has been composed. Whether the author has realized the truth of Dharma or not, it is only a glimpse of his own nature. Even if he has not received the permission of the Yidam, he has received the permission of the second Padmasambhava's teachings. Although he is not proficient in the five sciences, it is said that his mind is inclined towards the ocean of scriptures. Relying on the lotus feet of many wise and accomplished spiritual friends, it is said that there is a lineage of oral instructions. My wisdom in the city of thought, the water of hearing and thinking is as lush as a forest. The profound meaning resounds like the thunder of summer, accompanied by the lightning of excellent and complete merits. The nectar of good speech causes the sprouts of wisdom of those with good fortune to grow vigorously. May those who are poor in the Dharma eventually live up to their names. May the pure merit that emerges from the treasure of the ocean of diligence become the supreme drinker. May the branches and leaves of increased intention flourish, and the shade of self and other benefits cover all. May this lotus be filled with profound meaning and abundant fruits, bringing joy. In order to make everything happy with the wonderful lotus of double benefit, I say this. May this virtue never be separated from the treasury of the Sugata's scriptures from now until the attainment of Dharma forbearance. May the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas always take care of me, and may I become the glory and protector of guiding beings. May all actions that violate the Pratimoksha vows and natural sins, as well as the three vows, be purified. May the qualities of abandonment and realization of the three trainings increase, and may I attain the supreme common Siddhi. May I attain the supreme state of enlightenment in this life. May I exist as an emanation and re-emanation, a magical dance, for the benefit of all sentient beings until Samsara is empty, and may I reach the ground of Samantabhadra. May the pond of the Buddha's teachings be filled with the assembly of lotus flowers of the upholders of the teachings, and may the flocks of swan-like beings of sentient beings enjoy it.

The cause is to act according to the Dharma without deviation. May the pure interdependence of virtuous accumulations, the bowstring of the powerful, spread across the minds of oneself and others. May the spontaneous accomplishment of both aims, like a gentle rain, bring forth the glory of joy for all beings! Thus, this commentary called "The Excellent Path of Liberation: A Clear Differentiation of the Three Vows," was composed by Padma Lodän, who is inseparable from the great Vidyadhara Padmasambhava. He is the lord of the hosts of heroes and dakinis, the accomplished master Vidyadhara Dudul Dorje, and the powerful and mighty Klongsal Nyingpo. He is inseparable in essence from Vairochana, Padma Garwang Gyurme Dorje, and the supreme emanation, Mingyur Dorje. Having bowed with his head to the lotus feet of these four treasure revealers, and having received the nectar of maturation and liberation, and having been well nourished by the nectar of the speech of many wise and accomplished ones, and holding the lineage of the teachings of the omniscient Padma Lodrö, the celibate lay practitioner, the great Bodhisattva, the three-fold Vajradhara, Padma Lodän, born in the land of Tagbu in Eastern Dokham, compiled this from some notes and drafts he had previously written. He received the repeated command from Vidyadhara Dudul Dorje and the root guru Kamala Bīryādhara, "Write it definitively with the teachings," which he took to heart. It was completed in the great temple of Bartrö Min Dröl Chöding. May it be virtuous! May it be virtuous! The root lineage of this treatise is: Ngari Pa Padma Wangyal, Nup Wön Jampa Chökyi Gyaltsen, Vidyadhara Töchen Drup Pa, Gelong Sangye Dorje. Both Tagla Padma Dorje and Padma Rigdzin were asked by me, Padma Lodän. The Excellent Path of Liberation: A Clear Differentiation of the Three Vows, a part of the path of the Great Perfection of Naturalness. Tagla Padma Lodän.
