Having a gentle nature and little jealousy, little hypocrisy and a kind heart, little pretense and upright conduct, not accumulating wealth but having strong desires, being skilled in actions and having clear wisdom, having little consideration for worldly matters, having little competitive spirit towards friends, being diligent and not distinguishing between inner and outer, possessing good lineage and being helpful, being easy to tame and having harmonious intentions, having good health and few illnesses, listening to teachings and being upright in nature. If all these qualities are possessed, it is the best; possessing half is also good; possessing one-third is also worth relying on. It is extremely important to examine the guru for yogis and practitioners. If not examined, one will always engage in the activities of demons, because one will fall away from bodhi and siddhis. It is also said in the Fifty Verses on the Guru: The guru and the disciple, equally violating the vows, the hero should first always examine the relationship between the guru and the disciple. A wise disciple should not be without compassion towards the guru, angry and malicious, arrogant and attached without restraint, should not conquer and be attached. Generating attachment, being overly attached to copying letters, being overly attached to non-existent things, being overly attached to letters, being attached to the absence of letters, directing the mind towards objects and so on, craving gain and respect, savoring the taste of verses, seeking skillful means in non-paths, this is called the second set of ten. Disagreement in views between the guru and the disciple is the root of demons, because it disturbs the mind and makes the continuum impure, therefore one will not see the meaning of the peaceful nature of reality, so it is truly proclaimed: falling away due to intention and laziness, falling away due to different objects to be tamed, having great or small desires, possessing or not possessing the qualities of practice, being virtuous or non-virtuous, and not being virtuous, being attached to giving, being stingy with generosity, being arrogant, understanding through conceptual proliferation, being knowledgeable or not knowledgeable about the Dharma such as the sutras, possessing or not possessing the six perfections, being skillful or unskillful in means in suchness, obtaining or not obtaining dharani, wanting or not wanting to copy letters, and being separated from the intention of desire.

Great wisdom is needed. Seek instructions from one who possesses six qualities. A Bodhisattva should be steadfast and endure suffering, have faith and little deceit. Great compassion and diligence are essential. Respect the Guru and keep vows. Have good conduct and be generous. Be intelligent and able to keep secrets. Give to those who possess six qualities. Wisdom should be pure and without fear. A good mind, good conduct, and stability are important. Give away body, wealth, and possessions. These and other qualities come from elsewhere. Furthermore, when generating Bodhicitta and taking vows, the scriptures extensively discuss how to treat the teacher and disciple. Not examining is the root of demons, therefore examination is necessary. Therefore, from all things, one must be completely liberated from demons. If liberated, enlightenment is within reach. One's own mind is the demon; if one's mind is pure, one is free from demons. All three thousand worlds can be used as coverings, but how can so many coverings be enough? A piece of leather the size of a shoe sole can be like covering the entire three thousand worlds. Therefore, purify your own mind. Ignorant of the teachings, like myself, I am not one to write, but for the sake of preventing students from degenerating, I have briefly summarized the meaning of the scriptures. If others see it, I ask for forgiveness. By whatever merit is accumulated from this, may those who enter the path be liberated from demonic obstacles. The chapter called "The Demon of Samadhi" is complete. The recognition and abandonment of demons in Dzogchen, Aho! Three sections on the instructions for completely overcoming the demon of Samadhi.
