Because of continuously holding the concept of desire, and not truly understanding its function, one will never find it until one has gained and understood conviction. The Buddha himself said, to seek the Buddha with the Buddha himself is like seeking a mirage in the ocean. So, if it is thought that conviction is attained through self-power, in order to explain its cause, it is said: Do not rely on the teachings of a teacher who has not become a reliable standard, like a monkey, reliance and the wrong path will be bound by concepts. Because the help that can save from great suffering is the spiritual friend, in short, the standards of a spiritual friend are threefold: having no definite Dharma, and even if there is, it is not grasped by experience; having no experience of conviction, and even if there is, not finding certainty that is in accordance with subsequent reasoning; and even if there is, it only manifests sound. Furthermore, in 'Intelligence' it says: Without equal confidence, clinging to the side of emptiness, manifesting the unconditioned, the uncertain, the sign, not abiding freely, contending with the basis of emptiness, whatever such a person teaches is like a child's sophistry. Like a monkey, being distracted by many affairs, because it is an obstacle to the Mahayana, it is impossible to manifest meaning, bondage is caused by lack of effort, it is said to cut it with a knife. Since both instruction and giving do not become causes, it is said: Reliance and the wrong path will be bound by concepts. If these are accepted, there will arise a view that divides phenomena and emptiness, and one-sided effort is a path that deviates from the Mahayana, because it will never be separated from the view of having an object, so it will enter the river of concepts. Therefore, (it is said) like a jewel that defiles gold with black ash. It means that if one relies on someone who is unqualified, even important things will become insignificant. For example, gold that has been treated by a blacksmith of black ash cannot satisfy the senses of others. Similarly, the mind that is seized by the conviction of the oral instructions, in its nature has self-nature, in its self-nature has self, through fully understanding the meaning of the two branches, in the equal space, the king of wisdom becomes free, and everything will be happy according to their respective destinies. Therefore, a teacher who has conviction is not like a craftsman who only focuses on certain aspects, so he is called a jewel. To buy with immeasurable value.

is appropriate. That is to say, a jewel cannot be measured by any value. Why? Because it comes from something that is much superior to ordinary things. Having understood this meaning, it shows how to exert the energy of the three doors of body, speech, and mind: observing the manner, purifying defilements, and even a beginner can be transformed into a cause. For the benefit of both oneself and others, it becomes very useful, which is called "lineage." In the oral instructions transmitted from the hearts of the Buddhas, I should not interpret it with the wisdom of others, but I have written down my own notes on some aspects that I have seen. Although it has not been unfolded like a vast treatise, I confess with my own mind as a witness to the Buddha. May whatever merit is gained from these words that follow memory and wisdom be transformed for the benefit of future yogis entering the Great Vehicle and all beings. May virtue and goodness increase!
