The Lamp Dispelling Darkness at the Edge. Glorious Melody. The Lamp Dispelling Darkness at the Edge. Glorious Melody. Homage! The Lamp Dispelling Darkness at the Edge abides here. All phenomena are illusions of the mind; there is no other phenomenon apart from the mind. What appears as phenomena is the deluded mind. Dependent arising is like a mirage, without birth. Saying there is no birth is also to dispel the clinging to things as real. A mirage is primordially unborn, and the word 'abiding' is not applied to the unborn state. Like the sky, saying that it is non-existent, what fool would contemplate it? The wise do not grasp existence from the beginning, do not contemplate non-existence, and do not speak words. Because there is no phenomenon apart from the mind, there is no nature of phenomena to be meditated upon elsewhere. Since the mind itself is primordially unborn, where is the meditator? The very nature of mind, the root of speech, if it is not the unborn essence, then there is neither meditation nor object of meditation; to whom does such terminology apply? When walking, do not hold two streams of thought in the mind; that is unborn, naturally without focus. Since there is no other mind apart from that, what is there to correct and abide in? When the conditions of delusion and conceptualization are combined, if the mind appears like a mirage, it cannot be corrected by the wisdom of its own nature, just as one would correct a mirage without understanding it. For minds that are non-conceptual and without characteristics, do not abide even in the absence of characteristics. If one does not abide in the absence of characteristics, what need is there to mention abiding in characteristics? There is no accomplishment, and there is no abiding; without effort, like the sky. The samadhi that arises from effort is swift; there is no need for anything whatsoever. If that is so, how can such profound non-conceptualization appear in the realm of consciousness? The experience of profound non-conceptualization, because it is an experience, is not that itself. "The Lamp Dispelling Darkness at the Edge of View and Practice." This was composed by the Tibetan Pandit Acharya Gnyan Paldyang.
