May this great merit of the nectar medicine itself, and the root of virtue from the collection by the teacher Sangye Gyupa of those scattered from the tantras, cause all limitless sentient beings to travel the path and attain the state of the Victorious, the Perfect Buddha. Thus, I dedicate and make aspirations. Secondly, the reason for the completion of the composition is: This, called "A Concise Explanation of the Stages of the Path for Those Who Practice the King of Tantras, the Secret Essence of the Glorious Magical Net," was composed by the great teacher Sangye Gyupa, summarizing the meaning of a hundred thousand tantras, and because the words and meaning are complete, it is said to be complete. In the sacred land of India, among the constellations of scholars and accomplished ones, like the sun, the teacher Sangye Gyupa, who is universally praised as the second Buddha, extracted the essence of the instructions from tens of thousands of texts, including the eighteen tantras, and composed this concise path of stages. This is the miraculous Dharma, the footprints of hundreds of thousands of vidyadharas. It is the heart jewel of all who wish to attain omniscience. These profound and vast meanings of the tantras are difficult to fathom and measure. Through this rare and supreme Dharma, one can understand them well. Therefore, strive in listening, contemplating, and meditating. I myself have no qualities of teaching or writing, nor do I have the intention to benefit others. Why do I say this? Because in this degenerate age, those who practice are as rare as stars in the daytime. However, when the explanation of this Dharma is near to disappearing, my mind could not bear it, so I made this concise commentary. In the solitary place of the Radiant Great Vehicle Isle, I completed it after three days of tireless effort. Whatever errors there may be in the words and meaning of what was written, I confess before the assembly of the Three Roots, Dharma Protectors, and Guardians, and pray for the granting of purity and accomplishment. May the community of those who teach, practice, and uphold this profound and secret Dharma increase from glory to glory, like the waxing moon. May I also practice the supreme path of secret mantra, realize the meaning of the Radiant Great Perfection in this life, and, having placed sentient beings connected by good and bad karma and aspirations, and all beings pervading space, on the correct path, may I accomplish the activities of the Lama Secret Lord. Thus, without losing even a single word of the root texts, I have only made a word-by-word explanation. If I were to explain it extensively, in this degenerate age, there is generally little interest in the Dharma, and especially little diligence in the Dharma of the essential meaning.
