Understanding and realization. First, regarding the way of explaining: "Secret" indicates the nature of the tantra; "Essence" indicates the greatness of the tantra; "Suchness" indicates the characteristic of the tantra; "Definite" indicates the definitive meaning of the tantra; "O" indicates the complete meaning of the tantra. As it is said in the Minor Commentary: "Nature is called secret, greatness is the meaning of essence, suchness is its characteristic, definite briefly explains the definitive meaning, thus in these four aspects, it is briefly explained as the general meaning." Secondly, regarding the way of understanding: "Secret" is understood as the nature of mind, awareness, the spontaneously arisen wisdom, the reality that is difficult to understand; "Essence" is understood as containing the essence; "Suchness" is understood as all phenomena being inseparable from it, thus eliminating others; "Definite" is understood as being the definitive meaning, free from doubt; "O" is understood as these being the complete meaning of the tantra. As it is said in the Commentary on the Eye: "Without object, difficult to examine, deep and subtle, the essence of the cause and effect of the teachings, the essence of the heart, another name is suchness, arising from definitive meaning." Thirdly, regarding the way of realization: "Secret" realizes the nature of the tantra; "Essence" realizes the greatness of the tantra; "Suchness" realizes the characteristic of the tantra; "Definite" realizes the definitive meaning of the tantra; "O" realizes the complete meaning of the tantra. As it is said in the Minor Commentary: "In order to explain its nature, greatness, characteristic, and meaning, from the great tantra of the net of illusion, it is briefly determined." Third, regarding the meaning of the words. Although it is not explained only according to the literal meaning like the Commentary, if it is explained according to the oral instructions of the lineage of gurus, there are three: outer, inner, and secret. First, explaining according to the outer path of liberation, there are also four, namely, explaining the meaning of "secret," "essence," "suchness," and "definite." First, regarding the word "secret," there are three: secret of nature, hidden secret, and concealed secret. First, regarding the secret of nature, there are also four: what is secret? To whom is it secret? How is it secret? For what purpose is it secret? What is secret? The nature tantra, the essence of the secret of nature, awareness, spontaneously arisen wisdom, the indivisible truth, which is naturally present within oneself from the beginning, that is secret. To whom is it sec

Then, keep it secret from those who need to be tamed but whose minds are confused. How to keep it secret? By determining through one's own method of secrecy, keeping it secret in a way that is difficult to understand. As the second chapter of this scripture says: Emaho! The Dharma that has been secret from the beginning, keeps the self-nature secret in various appearances, thoroughly keeps the essence secret, and is extremely secret because it cannot be obtained from elsewhere. Thus it is said. Among the four ways of keeping secret, keeping secret from the beginning refers to: the ultimate truth of the unborn seven treasures, spontaneously accomplished in essence, although it is inherent, one does not recognize oneself, this is keeping secret. What does not recognize it? Co-emergent ignorance does not give rise to definite knowledge of self-awareness, because it clings to things as real and does not recognize them. Regarding this, the commentary on this scripture, the "Jewel Key" written by Sgegpa Dorje, says: The non-dual, self-born wisdom and qualities are completely and spontaneously accomplished, although they are inherent, it is only that they are not recognized. Thus it is said. The secrecy of self-nature refers to: the conventional truth of the body and wisdom mandala, which exists by nature, but one does not recognize oneself, this is keeping secret. What does not recognize it? The ignorance of complete imputation, clinging to self-appearance as a sign, is confused and does not recognize it. Regarding this, the "Key" says: That self-appearing thing is complete and inexhaustible, like a wheel of ornaments, existing in its own continuum, obscured by imputation. Thus it is said. The secrecy of essence refers to: the inseparable truth, which is inherently complete from the beginning, but one does not recognize the essence, this is keeping secret. What does not recognize it? Because it clings to appearance and emptiness as different, it does not recognize it. Regarding this, the "Key" says: The essence of the self-nature continuum, liberated from object, mind, cause and effect, and the two truths, because it is self-appearing, one's own essence does not appear as an object. Thus it is said. Extreme secrecy refers to: the meaning of inseparability, being apart from the field of experience, which is inherently complete from the beginning, but one does not recognize the essence, this is keeping secret. What does not recognize it? Because it clings to object and subject, it does not recognize it. Regarding this, the "Key" says: The fruit continuum to be attained is not elsewhere, but is obscured by the afflictive obscurations, the obscurations of knowledge, and the obscurations of views, although one seeks it elsewhere, it only appears in self-awareness. Thus it is said. Therefore, it is kept secret by determining through the four ways of keeping secret. For what purpose is it kept secret? Because the self-nature continuum exists within oneself

以ta na(ཏ་ན་,梵文:tanu,梵文罗马转写:tanu,汉语字面意思:身体)和ga na(ག་ན་,梵文:gana,梵文罗马转写:gaṇa,汉语字面意思:群体)等符号或声音的方式隐藏。

Because it is not an ordinary realm and is difficult to understand, it is secret. Second, there are also six kinds of hidden secrets: What is hidden? Where is it hidden? To whom is it hidden? In what way is it hidden? For what purpose is it hidden? By whom is it revealed? What is hidden is the complete meaning of the letter tantra. Where is it hidden? It is hidden in the letter tantra, which is the symbol, path, and means. To whom is it hidden? It is hidden to those who can be tamed and have the karmic connection. In what way is it hidden? It is hidden in the way of confusing the tantra, twisting the scriptures, and hiding the oral instructions. For what purpose is it hidden? It is hidden in order not to abolish the teachings. By whom is it revealed? It is revealed by the master of the two valid cognitions (प्रमाण द्वय pramāṇa dvaya). Third, there are also six kinds of concealed secrets: What is concealed? Where is it concealed? To whom is it concealed? In what way is it concealed? For what purpose is it concealed? By whom is it revealed? What is concealed are the differences in behavior, such as five, three, and fifteen, which are the profound practices of secret mantra. Where is it concealed? It is concealed in the letter tantra. To whom is it concealed? It is concealed to those who practice secret mantra literally. In what way is it concealed? It is concealed in the form of symbols or sounds such as ta na (ཏ་ན་,梵文:tanu, romanization: tanu, meaning: body) and ga na (ག་ན་,梵文:gana, romanization: gaṇa,meaning: group). For what purpose is it concealed? As it is said in the extensive text: "If one practices it with an unenlightened mind, one will be born in the realm of yakshas and rakshasas." Therefore, if one practices union and liberation, etc., with a mind that has not realized the view of secret mantra, there will be faults, so it must be concealed. By whom is it revealed? It is revealed by someone who possesses the oral instructions of secret mantra. There are also three meanings of the term "essence": the essence of the cause, the essence of the result, and the essence of the meaning, which is the gathering of essence. The essence of the cause is that it opens the door of blessings of this tantra being taught, and because all teachings arise from it, it is the cause. This is also mentioned in the third chapter of this very text: "Discipline, Sutra, Abhidharma, vows, practice, and accomplishment, the tantras of body, speech, and mind, widely renowned in all ten directions, all arise from the secret essence, this self-nature secret essence, is definitely established as the source of all the Tripitaka and all the tantras." The essence of the result is that the ultimate result of practicing all vehicles must be the manifestation of this self-nature secret essence. This is also mentioned in the last chapter of this very text: "The arrangement of the various grounds is the path to enter the secret essence." And in the third chapter: "Four
