Also, as it says in the Chokling treasure teachings: “This precious teaching of the Teacher, I have made clear in the land of snows. Following after me, Hold the supreme teaching of the Teacher. Lhachik Trisong Detsen and, The venerable Padmasambhava, I, Bodhisattva, As the decrees and laws have been established, Those who have life must do. The teachings of the Victorious One are declining, Those who have life are in distress, Inspire the compassion of the Teacher, Pray to me again and again. Outwardly, perfectly maintain the Vinaya, Inwardly, cultivate the mind of Bodhichitta, Attain the accomplishment of secret mantra, Manifest enlightenment in Zangdok Palri, Inseparable from the Lord of Secrets, Protect the teachings of Tibet with emanations, Therefore, blessings will surely enter. In general, the body, speech, and mind of the Victorious Ones, Build well and show respect. Having built my image as an auspicious connection, Proclaim the decree and generate the mind. Invite to the sky in front, If you prostrate, offer, praise, and pray, Purity of discipline will become excellent. By visualizing clearly in your own heart, The supreme mind of Bodhichitta will arise. Hold the pride of the inseparable body, Attain accomplishments and gather the Sangha.” Like this and so on, like at the end of times, there are many excellent things needed, such as auspicious connections that benefit the teachings of the Victorious Ones. Here it is said: In the vast and excellent mansion of the supreme vehicle, with the perfect wisdom of profound clarity. Adorned with many scriptures, with virtuous sidelong glances. Even striking the strings of the two truths with the fingers of discriminating awareness, To please the Gentle Protector, spreading the melodious song of good speech. Alas! Tibetan texts are verbose, with little meaning, and extremely cumbersome, no matter how much one studies, doubts remain. For those who are unable to explain, after striving for a long time, they cannot understand such excellent texts. Giving the best of confidence, cutting through doubt, as sharp as the sword in Manjushri's hand. Those who do not hold it with respect, I wonder what their fate will be, my heart grows sad. Therefore, without the mind of gaining fame and fortune, With the words of the Lama and a good intention, And with respect for the supreme and supreme teachings, Explaining the supreme path of reasoning with the manner of reasoning. Why speak more! Therefore, if there is any fault, I confess and repent. Relying on the excellent and precious scriptures, the guiding function of reason is clearly elucidated. Having seen the good rules, whatever is in accordance with them, its good deeds are like the immaculate autumn moon. Each attains the door of the four correct wisdoms, such a profound and excellent treatise on reasoning. Having understood it oneself, and teaching it to others, may the demeanor of a lion of speech be accomplished. Whoever explains, listens to, or reads this treatise, may the light of Manjushri's joy ignite in their hearts, and may the tradition of the great Khenpo Chökyi Gyalpo (King of Dharma), be propagated and expanded in all directions and times without decline. This treatise reveals the essential secrets of all philosophical tenets and nakedly displays all subtle and profound meanings. Such a method of reasoning and whose intellect can be compared and combined, is the true lion of speech. Seeing this excellent jewel-like ornament of the treatise, those other treatises filled with various praises and exaggerations, are like cherry ornaments that foster the arrogance of children, how can the wishful thinking that boasts of being good be satisfied! May the lotus of the heart bloom fully, may the supreme Khenpo and Manjushri, with the splendor of their inseparable faces, dispel the darkness of ignorance with billions of rays, and with compassion that pervades the sky, exist constantly in this world like the sky, may the Dharma drum of the profound Dharma, immaculate like the sky, be struck supremely! Even in the unbearable degenerate age, when the impurities of time are extremely thick like the darkness of the setting sun, may the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, with their aspirations, appear like billions of moons in the cloudless sky, and may the light of benefit for the teachings and sentient beings increase and expand more and more through the activities of explaining and accomplishing the immaculate Sutras and Shastras! Thus, this explanation of the "Madhyamakalankara" (Ornament of the Middle Way) treatise, as exemplified by what was said above, does not focus on necessity, but rather unites the compassion of the Khenpo, Acharya, and Dharma into one, is the king of all who are learned and accomplished, the supreme five-crested one who manifests as a Bhikshu holding monastic robes, our incomparable guide, the lord of immeasurable and boundless kindness, whose name is difficult to pronounce, Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, whose fame is universally known in the world.

When I was given the Tibetan commentary documents and told to look at them carefully and give an explanation, I respectfully accepted the vajra command. Although someone as inferior as I am does not have the ability to write a commentary on such a subtle treatise, I gained a little courage to inquire due to the blessings of the venerable lama. Furthermore, because the great master of the early translation school, Padmasambhava, also gave the instruction to "write diligently," I therefore generated diligence. I began on the third day of the dark month of the new year of the Fire Rat year, when I was thirty-one years old, writing continuously during the early sessions, and completed it on the twenty-fourth day of the same month. The author is: having gained a little intelligence from the power of touching the dust of the feet of the incomparable Khyentse Wangpo with my head, and having been protected by the kindness of many holy beings such as the great Vajradhara Wangchen Gyerab Dorje of definite meaning, the five-knowledge pandita Karma Ngawang Yonten Gyatso, and the prince of scholars Jikme Chokyi Wangpo, etc., thereby gaining a little faith in the Buddhist teachings, I, who am called "the self-radiance of Manjushri's joy, the lotus blooming stamen," have written this. Afterwards, I also perfectly received the profound explanation and transmission of the pure vision near lineage from the venerable refuge. Immediately after that, during the period of teaching and guiding for twenty-one days to the great upholders of the Vinaya, such as the diligent Vinaya holder Tashi, I made slight revisions to this. May this action cause the correct path of the Victorious Sun Kinsman, the great roar of the lion, to always pervade all realms of the world, thereby destroying without remainder the arrogance of all opposing forces such as demons, non-Buddhists, and barbarians, and may the precious Buddhist teachings flourish and develop in all times and places, becoming an auspicious cause. Mangalam! Om Svasti! The wisdom of the Victorious One with all the sons, Manjushri, manifesting in the form of a saffron-robed holder, well establishing the victory banner of the Dharma of the Sage's teachings, may the great Khenpo Dharma King be victorious! 1. Through the light of the well-spoken hundred suns, may it completely eliminate the darkness of existence, becoming a beautiful ornament of the doctrine and the Victor's teachings. Countless wise and accomplished beings, with their intellect, repeatedly upheld the roar of the lion of reasoning. By constantly proclaiming it, the expanse of India and Tibet, has become endowed with the glory of joy. However, due to the power of time, the gateways of teaching and listening, have become temporarily paused as if resting. The one who gathers the biographies of the three-family bodhisattvas, the protector of the teachings and beings who dispels all the degeneration of the degenerate age. The one known as Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, whose banner of fame is exceedingly high in the world. Through the blessings of his profound aspiration, and relying on the light of his joyful speech. May the entirely complete teachings of Sutra and Tantra, the stainless tradition of explanation and practice, become clear again as in the past. Now, for the first time, we know the experience of the nectar of the Buddha's teachings. Through relying on such excellent treatises, the key points of reasoning of the profound Madhyamaka Mahayana, in order to ensure that those with intelligence are free from the darkness of doubt, and to increase the light of their minds. This commentary, which clearly and easily explains the treatise itself of the profound Ornament of Madhyamaka, this arrangement of an inexhaustible Dharma feast, is also the activity of the incomparable glorious Lama. By the merit of this, may all beings in the three realms, unlock the treasure of deep and vast wisdom, and may the entire treasury of the Sugata's teachings, adorn the world through teaching, listening, and writing. May the strength of the body of the entirely complete Buddha's teachings increase, possessing the bridle of the sharp wheel of reasoning. Relying on this well-spoken immortal vehicle, may the Victor's teachings be completely victorious in all directions.
