Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the abode of the Thirty-Three Gods, on a stone slab like armonika, together with the great Shravakas such as the Venerable Shariputra, and the Noble Maitreya, the Noble Avalokiteshvara, Vajrapani, and other Bodhisattva Mahasattvas adorned with immeasurable qualities and jewels, and the great Brahma, lord of the Sahā world, the son of Sredmeda, the great Ishvara, and other gods, and the lord of the gods, Indra, the king of the Gandharvas, Five-Crested, and others. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Avalokiteshvara rose from his seat, bared one shoulder, knelt on his right knee on the summit of Mount Meru, and, with his palms joined, bowed towards the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: \"Blessed One, these gods all desire to build stupas and are present in this assembly. The Great Brahma spoke thus: "Avalokiteshvara, this is how it is: Dependent origination is the Dharmakaya of the Tathagatas. Whoever sees dependent origination sees the Tathagata. Avalokiteshvara, any son or daughter of good family who has faith, in a place where there is no dwelling, makes a stupa the size of an emblic fruit, a life-tree as thin as a woman's needle, and an umbrella as large as a Kakkola flower, and places within it the verses on dependent origination and the essence of Dharma, will generate the merit of Brahma. Having passed away from here and at the time of death, they will be born in the world of Brahma." After the Bhagavan spoke thus, those Shravakas, those Bodhisattvas, all the complete retinue, and the world with gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas rejoiced and praised what the Bhagavan had said.
