Due to the era being controlled by the evil views of ignorance, those who do not even know what the higher realms and lower realms are, take beings and demons of the lower realms as deities to seek refuge, but they not only cannot provide refuge, but also cause harm in this life and the next. Therefore, those who wish themselves well should only trust in the Three Jewels. Know that being born into a higher realm is itself a refuge for all sentient beings. The three fundamental precepts are explained separately below: In the Extensive Sutra it says: Anyone who takes refuge in the Buddha is a true layperson. One should never take refuge in other deities. Taking refuge in the sacred Dharma, one will be free from harming and harmful thoughts. Taking refuge in the Sangha, one should not associate with non-Buddhists. And so on. The common part of the precepts is: As a layperson vowing, one must protect these three refuges. One should not worship and prostrate to all non-Buddhists with respect. Having accepted the supreme object of reliance, if one relies on the inferior again, because of being on the side of fault, it will become a laughingstock of the noble ones. And so on. Regarding how to receive the refuge vows. There are two ways to determine the self-nature ultimate refuge. One is to determine through negative inference, to jointly determine the two selflessnesses through one otherness. For example: Just like wheels and so on, are considered components of a vehicle, through analysis of self and other, cannot be found in any way. Similarly, starting from the aggregates, being considered as sentient beings, through analysis of self and other, cannot be found in any way. And so on. The other is to determine through non-negative inference, to particularly determine the selflessness of phenomena through the great dependent origination. For example: The self-nature of things cannot be produced from causes and conditions, because things produced from causes and conditions, their self-nature would be artificial. How could the self-nature of things be artificial? The self-nature that is not artificial does not depend on others. The self-nature of all phenomena is not completely existent. And so on. At the time of dedication, the way of dedication is also: Relying on the teachings of the Mahayana, to distinguish the Three Refuges.

愿以此善行，令众生，皈依三宝！如《皈依七十颂》所说。经文意义圆满结合，完全成就。再次说道：一切安乐善妙皆依三宝，任何种姓皆由缘起力。自性显现为果之根本，若皈依能成办，何人不精进？因此，为使一切道之根本稳固，为使希求解脱众生之智慧眼增长，吉祥狮子以精进结合各大车乘之论典。由此所生之善，连同三时之清净，断除为宗派偏袒、少数有情而回向，为使佛法兴盛、众生解脱而回向。 皈依之教言结合，皎洁之月鬘。吉祥狮子。

May all beings, through this merit, be inclined towards the Three Jewels! As stated in the "Seventy Verses on Refuge." The complete combination of the meaning of the scriptures is fully accomplished. Speaking again: All happiness and goodness depend on the Three Jewels, any lineage depends on the power of dependent origination. The basis for the manifestation of one's own nature as the fruit, if refuge can accomplish it, who would not strive here? Therefore, in order to make the basis of all paths firm, in order to expand the eye of wisdom of many beings who desire liberation, the glorious lion has diligently combined the treatises of the great chariots. May the virtue arising from this, together with the purity of the three times, abandoning the dedication for sectarian bias and for the sake of a few sentient beings, be dedicated for the flourishing of the Buddha's teachings and the liberation of all beings.
