Explanation of the necessity of praising with valid cognition. Explanation of the necessity of praising with valid cognition. Third, explaining the necessity of praising with valid cognition, there are two parts: showing that establishing valid cognition is necessary, and the way in which subsequent inference is established as valid cognition. First, someone asks: Since the Bhagavan possesses immeasurable qualities, why is it necessary to praise with valid cognition itself? Answer: Praising the one who has become valid cognition by showing such qualities is necessary, because the system of valid cognition is established from the teachings of the Bhagavan himself, and not arbitrarily established by Dignāga (c. 480-540 CE), for the sake of knowing this reason. Second, if direct perception is established as valid cognition in the scriptures, how is subsequent inference established as valid cognition? Answer: The teacher is subsequent inference, because it is undeniable that subsequent inference is valid cognition, and it prevents sound, etc., from being valid cognition. Not only is it undeniable, but also whatever has a nature of slightly arising is all cessation, that is, has the nature of destruction. And "from smoke, one knows fire," etc., in many ways, the application of this subsequent inference is also seen to be taught. Generally, whatever sign has the characteristic of not arising without the object to be proven is the basis of subsequent inference, and the relationship of the sign not arising without the object, is also clearly explained by the previous words, that is, to show that the object to be proven, impermanence, etc., is pervasive to the reason, arising, etc. Third, is the explanation of the chapter on establishing valid cognition, that is, the second chapter, from the commentary on the Pramāṇavārttika, "Samantabhadra's Rays of Light."
