Just as the mind is pure as the Dharmakaya, realize that one's own mind, the Dharmakaya, is the clear light that is pure of self, others, and sudden occurrences. At that time, there is no need to seek a guru outside of one's own mind; it is said that one's own mind arises as the sacred guru, the Dharmakaya. When such realization arises, one thinks that such realization is a blessing, and that there is no greater compassion than that of the glorious and sacred guru who bestows such realization, only the Buddhas. Then, from the depths of one's heart, unfeigned devotion arises, knowing that even all the Buddhas pervading the sky cannot compete with the king of Buddhas. Because that devotion greatly accumulates merit, purifies obscurations, perfects qualities, and excels in every way, in a single moment, one can condense many bhumis and paths, and thus make one's own mind, the Dharmakaya free from elaboration, manifest. Thus, in this Kagyu lineage, the devotion that eliminates immeasurable obscurations in a single moment is known as ultimate devotion. As Kyobpa Jigten Sumgön said: "The ultimate means of the guru, which arises from the tantra, should be known from my merit." Thus, he said. Therefore, in order to make even the subtlest obscurations of knowledge become increasingly pure, one should still exert oneself in that ultimate devotion, and in that state, remain without being defiled by any elaborations of samsara and nirvana. Such devotion of remaining in equipoise is the chief and most excellent of all accumulations of merit, and that devotion, remaining without being altered by any extreme of elaboration, is the chief and most excellent of all accumulations of wisdom. Therefore, by the power of the profound and secret path that accumulates such a union of the two accumulations, even in each moment, one manifests the two kayas that accomplish the benefit of oneself and others. 40
