The Third Chapter from The Great Perfection: The Quintessence of Manjushri's Mind, "The Basis, the Nature of Reality, Shown Through Various Examples." All phenomena arise spontaneously from bodhichitta, The intentions of all Buddhas merge into one. Like the sky, empty, clear, free from elaboration, without focus, The nature of mind is self-arisen wisdom, free from characteristics. The essence of the Dharmakaya is spontaneously accomplished, free from elaboration, The way it appears is unceasing, like the reflection of the moon in water. Although various things appear, they are not established in reality, In the Dharmakaya, there is nothing to grasp, like the sky. From the beginning, the nature of reality is pure, Without before or after, it is inherently equal. Like the center of the sun, naturally clear, Unobstructed, transparent, in the state of bodhichitta. Essence, nature, compassion, the three kayas, Completely pervade all of samsara and nirvana as one. From this, existence and phenomena appear like reflections in a mirror, The basis of appearance is unceasing, various appearances arise. Like a crystal ball with five lights shining within, Realization and non-realization cause the appearance of samsara and nirvana. The nature of mind is completely pure, appearances are spontaneously perfect, It is called the sphere of emptiness, possessing all perfections. From the very moment of the appearance of arising, ceasing, and abiding, It is slightly unestablished, the form of emptiness appearing as non-existent. Whatever arises in samsara and nirvana, the play of wisdom, Is merely dependent origination and terminology, without inherent existence. Understand it to be like a dream of illusion. From the beginning, all of samsara and nirvana is the nature of awareness. Whatever exists or does not exist is not established, it is the dharmadhatu, And the sphere of the all-pervading Father and the all-creating Mother. The state of letting go, abiding in meditation, without focus, in the great expanse, The spontaneously accomplished, all-pervading, uninterrupted space. Unborn, unceasing, complete in a single bindu, Although there is no gathering or scattering in all, for the fortunate, Each is the realm of their own wisdom alone. Transcending the realm of thought and expression, it is not an object of knowledge, Those who speak are confused, struck by lightning, it is the realm of self-awareness. Upon the unchanging, abiding awareness, Whatever sinking or rising thoughts arise are the play of its potential. The great spontaneously accomplished one, without straying or obscuration, Is like going to the golden island and not finding earth or stones. Therefore, whatever appears in the three realms and six classes of beings, Is inherently self-arisen, the pure realm, the vajra realm.

Having attained Buddhahood in the Great Perfection, one is free from discriminating between good and bad, acceptance and rejection. Some ignorant ones do not understand the union practice, and it is a great mistake to cling to the two purities. From the complete purification of adventitious stains, there is no need to seek a conditioned Buddha elsewhere. If you know your own nature, faults and obscurations will be eliminated by themselves. Looking, meditating, and searching elsewhere are all acts of ignorance. Since whatever appears does not move from the realm of Dharma, do not stray from the natural, innate state. The spontaneously accomplished wisdom is a wish-fulfilling jewel, its clear and stainless light pervades all of samsara and nirvana. Its essence transcends objects, and the aspect of appearance is inherently endowed with the glory of fulfilling all desires. The awareness that liberates from the four extremes is the space of Dharma-nature, the force of appearance and emptiness overwhelms and transcends the extremes of existence and non-existence. The equality of the three times is the unconditioned Dharma-realm, the nature of awareness free from grasping and the grasped, appearance and emptiness, the Dharmakaya is primordially and manifestly enlightened, this nature is realized by the wise as it is. This is the third chapter from the Great Perfection, the Heart Drop of Manjushri, which explains the nature of the ground, the nature of reality, through various examples and meanings.
