Homage to the expanse of Kuntuzangpo! In these degenerate times, practitioners of Dzogchen are confused about the crucial points of the ground, path, and fruition. Instead, they cling to lofty views and meditations that are merely lip service, and liberation from the shackles of mental fabrication is as rare as a star in the daytime. Therefore, in this text, I will differentiate the three crucial points, revealing the distinction between mind and awareness with the complete power of a lion. Samaya! The alaya is the basis of all samsara and nirvana, no different from muddy water. Obscured by the latent ignorance of bewilderment, the clarity of wisdom-awareness is concealed. The dharmakaya is like clear water that has been purified of sediment, possessing the nature of being free from adventitious stains. It is the essence of all qualities of liberation, the wisdom that will never again be deluded. Therefore, just as water and mud are separated, turn away from the indeterminate aspect. Seize the stronghold in the expanse of self-aware dharmakaya. Behold the display in the immaculate realm of wisdom. The alaya-consciousness is like ice in water. The power of grasping at the nature of its essence arises, and it is mostly deceived by attachment to the object of grasping. Therefore, the appearance of objects such as forms, feelings, perceptions, etc., is inherently empty. This does not mean that form is inherently empty because it faces outward. Rather, because the object of mind is empty, even though the appearance of the object arises in the mind, the form has no inherent existence, and therefore the form does not mix with the mind. Form is emptiness, and emptiness is also not other than form. This is the meaning to be understood. Transforming the wisdom of awareness into the luminous dharmakaya is the crucial point of the Nyingtik. If this is not understood, one will mistake the alaya for the dharmakaya, like a blind person wandering aimlessly in a desolate plain. Because one is confused about the crucial points of the ground and fruition, the path to attaining Buddhahood in one lifetime is blocked. Samaya! Mind and awareness are like wind and space. Mind is characterized by grasping and change. It swirls like a whirlpool, like a filled boil, or like a scattering wind that drifts aimlessly. It is the basis for the arising of various feelings and conditions. Awareness is without support and pervades all things. It opens into emptiness, like the expanse of space. It is clear and non-conceptual, like pure crystal. It" } ] ============================================================

Therefore, the realm of awareness liberated from the mind, Grasping the essential pith of the stronghold of the natural state. If you do not understand it this way, (only saying) everything is mind, Regarding the boundary between the defilement and non-defilement of appearances, Like water and mercury falling on the ground, Those who do not recognize their own nature and view them as the same, Taking the result as the path, at the pinnacle of the Vajrayana, Are confused about the state of instantaneous liberation. Samaya! Stillness (śamatha, शमथ, śamatha, meaning: calm) is like a person without senses, Blank, empty, dull, and listless. Awareness is like a spear erected, with mindfulness focused on the target, Like a noble person possessing the five aspects of insight (vipassanā). Knowing one's own nature and seeing the dharma nature of essence. Analyzing too much, expanding external objects with conceptual thought, etc. Therefore, regarding the coemergent union of ordinary, The naked natural state, unadulterated by conceptual thought, The rootless, essence-less dharma nature, To settle equally in the three times is the essential pith. If you do not understand this, the philosophical system of conceptual thought, Expanding on existence, non-existence, and emptiness to attain enlightenment, Like the illusion of wind, with thoughts and concepts severed, Accustoming oneself to a thick state, And the form of insight (vipassanā) that analyzes with scripture, reason, and knowledge, Clinging to them, along with antidotes, chasing after external objects, Those who take mental aspirations and mind-holding as the path, For this vehicle, they only have the degree of faith, Without the fortune to see it as it is. Samaya! For the sake of future sentient beings with diminished merit, It is very difficult to find a qualified lama, Because of small wisdom, they do not understand the meaning of the tantras, Because of small faith and devotion, it is difficult to attain realization, Because of weak intelligence, they do not understand the essential points of the instructions, Relying only on hearing and learning, When they spend their lives in misery in the mountains, Those who have the fortune to awaken the karmic imprints of past practice, For the vidyadhara who has seized the stronghold of realization, The dakinis will reveal the symbols of space and awareness. With concise words, condensed meaning, and profound essential points, May it subdue those who have karmic fortune. Samaya! Gya Gya Gya! From the Longchen Nyingtik, Distinguishing the three essential points of Dzogchen.
