The Essence of the Abridged Meaning of the Four Medical Tantras is present. Om Ah Tha. The unprecedented physician, the Bhagavan. Having respectfully prostrated to the glorious Lama, I will briefly state the abridged meaning of the Four Medical Tantras. The body, speech, mind, qualities, and activities of the perfectly complete Buddha, the Medicine Guru, are the inexhaustible manifestations of the great network of illusions of the wheel of ornaments. The four branches of knowledge and the fearless lion of speech, appearing in the form of Yid-las-kye, the teachings that were well spoken, are the great treasure of unsurpassed benefit and happiness, the very essence of all medical practices. This, known as the glorious Four Tantras, was revealed by the great translator Vairochana, and through the aspirations of the Dharma King Trisong Detsen and his chaplain, it appeared as a guest of merit in the land of snows. For a time, considering the opportune moment, it was sealed with an indestructible seal at the summit of glorious Samye Monastery. Later, the treasure revealer Yulgra, who was learned in the Abhidharma and possessed clairvoyance, and whose name was widely known as Wangchuk Bar, the great virtuous spiritual friend, unearthed it and transmitted it through a single lineage for three generations. Yuthok Yonten Gonpo, an emanation of the Medicine Buddha, practiced it diligently, and with appropriate supplements as needed, widely propagated it. Now, in order to explain this text, this text belongs to the early translation school's Sadhana Section, the Tantra of Expanding the Nectar Qualities Activities. Therefore, by following the explanatory methods of those who uphold those precepts, one can certainly and unerringly grasp the meaning that is in accordance with the root text. For those of superior intellect, only the names are indicated; for those of intermediate intellect, the general meaning is distinguished; for those of ordinary intellect, each word and syllable is explained. First, using the Nectar Heart Essence as an example, its necessity is explained; using the eight branches as an example, the content to be expressed is explained; using the Secret Oral Instruction Tantra, the name to be expressed is indicated. The second part is divided into five points: the cause of the arising of the tantra, which is the beginning; the condition, which is the instigation; the result, which is the essential meaning of the tantra to be fully understood; the necessary connection of the tantra; and the transmission and entrustment of the teachings to the retinue. The first point: the place is perfect, like the beautiful city of medicine; the teacher is perfect, the Medicine Buddha; the retinue is perfect, the gods, sages, and inner and outer assemblies.

Four. When the perfect time comes, with the teacher and retinue gathered, the perfect Dharma is taught, namely, the science of medicine is explained in the manner of the sages. As stated in the first chapter. The second part has two divisions: the actual introduction and the concise statement. The first part is: From the mind arises wisdom, and from speech arises the emanation born of mind, distinguishing the occasions for asking and granting. The second part is: A concise statement of the essential meaning of the Four Tantras, as in the second chapter. The third part has five divisions: the Root Tantra to be explained, the Explanatory Tantra that explains, the Practical Instruction Tantra for practice, the Later Tantra of oral instructions, and the way to introduce the supplementary summary of meaning, all of which are explained in order. Thus it is explained. The fourth part is: the beginning of the last chapter, and the fifth part is: as clarified by the end of the last chapter. Third, explaining in terms of ordinary words and phrases, there are four divisions: the meaning of the title, the homage to the translation, the meaning of the text, and the meaning of the introduction. In this way, by explaining the general meaning and the meaning of the text interchangeably, the eye of wisdom becomes exceedingly wide. Just as a small seed, nourished by warmth and moisture, grows into a large tree, may this small effort also cause the lotus of wisdom to bloom for those with clear minds. This was written by Khyentse Wangpo, the servant who delights in Guna Natha, at the urging of the Pandit Vajrapratistha, who repeatedly spoke of the ten sciences.
