Om Swasti! At the time of water offering, regarding the meaning of the prayer to the Naga King Gawa (Joyful) and others, it starts with mentioning the name of the lord of the offering, for whom the dedication and prayer are made, and the actual act of dedicating and praying for them, there are two aspects. Firstly, as stated in the Sutra Collection: \"In this Jambudvipa, how many rivers flow, causing flowers, fruits, medicines, and forests to grow, the Naga lords and Naga masters residing in Anavatapta (Tibetan: Ma Dros, meaning 'without heat'), are the places of reliance, that is the power and glory of the lord of the Nagas.\" As it is said, in general, moistening and wetting depend on the function of water, and the agent that causes the flourishing of the outer and inner worlds, such as flowers and fruits, to increase completely is solely the power of the Naga King and his retinue. The lords of all things to be given, such as lakes and ponds, which belong to the category of water, are the Nagas, such as the Naga King Gawa (Joyful). Therefore, through this offering, the patrons are represented by the three names actually mentioned: the Naga King Gawa (Joyful), Jowo (Possessing Wealth), and Nyegawa (Near to Joy). In this world, the Nagas, who are the lords of the moistening and wetting rivers, springs, ponds, etc., should be the object. Secondly, it is the aspiration that the five paths in their lineage be gradually completed and that they attain the state of Buddhahood. Among them, the first, the supreme giving, is the stage of the path of accumulation, and mere giving is also present in worldly people who have not entered the path, but there is no supreme giving that becomes the cause of the three Bodhis. In the path of accumulation, because of the union of merit and wisdom held by Shamatha and Vipassana, there is a way of accumulating merit that is superior to that of worldly people. Secondly, the ornament of the mind is the stage of the path of preparation, because at that time, by the power of realizing emptiness accordingly, all roots of virtue will surely turn into the cause of Bodhi, like a fragrant elephant" }, { "original_tibetan": "ཆེ་ལ་གསེར་གྱི་དྲ་བས་མཛེས་པ་ལྟར་", "chinese_translation": "身上装饰着金网一样。", "english_translation": "adorned with a golden net." } ] ============================================================

In order to purify the mind of a yogi, the roots of virtue serve as an extremely beautiful ornament. Third, the equipment of the mind is the time of the path of seeing, because at that time, the nature of reality, free from elaboration, is directly realized, and through the power of the actual union of the two accumulations, the mind of the yogi is made extremely rich by the wealth of the seven limbs of enlightenment. Fourth, the collection of yoga is the time of the path of meditation, because at that time, the continuum of familiarizing oneself with the wisdom of the first ground is made to increase more and more, and all the collections of samadhi within the yogi, such as the eight limbs of the noble path, are completely perfected. Fifth, the supreme of meaning is the time of the path of no more learning, because the supreme of the ultimate meaning to be accomplished has been attained. What are the distinctions of its qualities? Having mastered all aspects of knowable things, having abandoned all the two obscurations, and so forth, having attained the body, wisdom, qualities, and activities of a fully enlightened Buddha, like an ocean, may we attain such a precious state and make aspirations. This is what Kyo Pu Lotsawa and others have said. Furthermore, there are different explanations from the Abhidharma: supreme generosity is the ornament of the mind, miraculous power is the equipment of the mind, the eight limbs of the noble path are the collection of yoga, samadhi is the supreme of meaning, and nirvana is the supreme of meaning. This is what Manjaghosa wrote in his notebook, may it be virtuous! A brief explanation of the meaning of the aspiration prayer during water offerings.
