Commentary on the Compendium of Trainings Commentary on the Compendium of Trainings Commentary on the Compendium of Trainings Homage to Manjushri Kumara! Regarding the Compendium of Trainings composed by him, there are three meanings: the beginning, the main body, and the conclusion. The first is easy to understand. Secondly, the trainings are briefly shown, then explained in detail, and the conclusion of the explanation is summarized. Secondly, the meanings of the sixteen chapters are giving, guarding, purifying, and increasing, summarized in thirty-two ways, and taught in conjunction with the six perfections. Among them, the first chapter up to giving is the three givings. The five chapters from the second to the sixth are guarding. The seventh chapter teaches guarding enjoyment and merit. There are three purifications. Firstly, there are two aspects to the purification of the body: the eighth chapter teaches purifying sins, and the six chapters from the ninth to the fourteenth teach purifying afflictions. The fifteenth chapter teaches the purification of both enjoyment and merit. In terms of increase, the increase of body and enjoyment is taught by the second volume of the sixteenth chapter. From there... to the vastness is the realm of the Buddha. In between, it teaches increasing merit. Among them, the first chapter is easy to understand. The second to sixth chapters teach guarding the body, teaching the main body and its three methods. Firstly, there are two: the training of renunciates and householders. Among them, the first has five: holding the Dharma, abandoning demons, abandoning bad friends, abandoning abandoning bodhicitta, and abandoning the faults of error. The training of householders has two: the actual harm and the method of abandoning it. Firstly, there are four: the harm of not having leisure, the harm of the ten non-virtuous deeds, harm of wrong practice towards bodhicitta, and the harm of abandoning the Dharma. Secondly, the method of abandoning is taught by the fifth chapter. The sixth chapter teaches the method of guarding the body, with mindfulness, abandoning disbelief in others, and guarding by relying on medicine and so on. Among the three purifications, the purification of sins for the purification of the body is taught by the eighth chapter. The purification of afflictions is taught by the ninth to tenth chapters. Patience and diligence each have one chapter, and meditation and wisdom each have two chapters. Patience and diligence are easy to understand. In terms of meditation, abandoning external distractions, and after abandoning, practicing samadhi. The first is taught by the chapter on dwelling in a solitary place. The second has two: practicing shamatha and vipassana.

It is finished. The first has four: As antidotes to distraction, (namely) contemplating birth, aging, sickness, and death; for desire, contemplating impurity; for hatred, contemplating loving-kindness; for ignorance, contemplating dependent origination. These are explained in chapter twelve. The second, higher seeing, is wisdom. Among them, the contemplation of the selflessness of persons is explained in chapter thirteen, and the contemplation of the selflessness of phenomena is explained in chapter fourteen. Thus, the practice of the six perfections is explained through the gateway of twelve dharmas, therefore it is very similar to the *Bodhicharyavatara* and easy to understand. Auspiciousness! Chapter Commentary on the *Compendium of Trainings*.
