Noble Avalokiteśvara, Lord of Compassion. Noble Avalokiteśvara, Lord of Compassion. Noble Avalokiteśvara, Lord of Compassion, nine hundred and ninety-one kalpas before this Fortunate Aeon, in a kalpa called 'Holder,' generated the supreme mind of enlightenment before the Buddha Jñānaketu, accumulated the two accumulations, and attained perfect enlightenment, becoming the Tathāgata Sarvarashmiprativishishtashri Raja. The one thousand and two Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon also abide as the essence of this one. Merely in appearance, as a bodhisattva on the path of learning, he cherishes all sentient beings of the six realms in general, and especially all sentient beings of the snowy land of Tibet, with a love surpassing that of a mother for her only child. As it is widely spoken of in the sutras, tantras, and shastras, he abides in Sukhavati as a close attendant of Amitabha. When Amitabha passes into parinirvana, he will become the Buddha Sarvarashmiprativishishtashri Raja, and so forth, possessing endless magical displays like illusions. When residing on Mount Potala, the Isle of the Southern Sea, he was urged by Nivarana-Vishkambhin and transformed into the Tibetan king Nyatri Tsenpo, blessing the land of Tibet. Urged by Samantabhadra, he transformed into Lha Thothori Nyantsen, initiating the Holy Dharma. Urged by Mahakarunika, he transformed into Songtsen Gampo, establishing the traditions of Buddhism. Urged by Manjushri, he transformed into Trisong Detsen, causing the Dharma to flourish and expand. Furthermore, he transformed into the Kalki king Pema Karpo of Shambhala in the north, and into Dromtonpa during the Later Propagation of the Doctrine in Tibet. In short, he transformed into many great beings, vowing to liberate beings from the ocean of existence, a vow unmatched by others. Therefore, he is praised by the name 'Lord of Great Compassion.' Whoever hears this name, it is of great significance. As it is said in the Karunapundarika Sutra, when Avalokiteśvara was prophesied to attain enlightenment, he made the following aspiration: 'May those who hear my name be free from the fear of the lower realms, not fall into unfavorable circumstances, and be born in Sukhavati.' Thus he spoke. And as it is recorded in the Saddharmapundarika Sutra: 'Whoever'

To prostrate and hold the name of as many Tathagatas as there are grains of sand in the sixty-four tributaries of the Ganges River, and to prostrate and hold the name of the great bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, the lord of compassion, the accumulation of merit from both is equal, and it is not easy to exhaust even after hundreds of thousands of billions of kalpas. As it is said in the Sutra of Fully Revealing the Names: "I, the Great Compassionate One, subdue all beings and save them from all suffering. If you remember my name, even if others shoot arrows, they will not hit you. Even if sharp weapons strike, they will not hurt you. Your fame will spread far and wide, and your lineage will flourish. You will not lack food and wealth, and your enjoyment will increase. No one can overcome the one who remembers my name. Even if you go to a remote monastery or a forest, you will not be disturbed by lions, tigers, leopards, bears, brown bears, wild yaks, or venomous snakes. Just remembering my name will cause them to flee. Even if you fall into a blazing fire, remembering my name will turn it into a pond filled with lotuses. Just hearing my name will prevent you from drowning, being carried away by water, or being burned by fire. Those who remember my name will attain liberation." These and other benefits are extensively taught in the scriptures. In the Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Dharani Sutra, it is also said: "Even reciting the name of Avalokiteśvara will purify countless sins and bring immeasurable merit. After dying from this life, one will be reborn in the blissful realm of Sukhāvatī." These and other inconceivable virtues are taught by the Buddha. Similarly, regarding the benefits of reciting the six-syllable mantra, etc., it is said in the Lotus Crown Tantra: "After remembering me, any son or daughter of good family who recites or remembers and wears on their body this mantra 'Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ' (藏文:ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ།,梵文天城体:ओँ मणि पद्मे हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡啊! 吽!), even once, will purify the five inexpiable sins and the near-five inexpiable sins, as well as all sins, and will be freed from the hells, the animal realm, and the eight unfavorable conditions. Their body, speech, and mind will no longer suffer. They will be liberated from wild beasts, rakshasas, humans, non-humans, and all diseases and fears. Having realized the meaning of the Dharmakaya,

You will see the face of the Great Compassionate One. Thus, and so on, it is widely spoken. In short, by constantly reciting this, if you bathe on the bank of a river, drinking that water will liberate you from samsara. The wind that touches his body spreads, and by touching it, sentient beings are purified of sins and obscurations, and will not be reborn in the lower realms. What need is there to mention other benefits? Moreover, whoever wears this on their body will transform into a vajra body. Just seeing it will liberate you. Whoever enters this will enter the eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma. Holding this will be holding the twelve branches of scripture. In this life, it will protect you from all diseases, evil spirits, and untimely death. After death, you will also be reborn in the Pure Land of Sukhavati, praised by all the Buddhas. Therefore, the benefits are inconceivable. One should build the body, speech, and mind supports of the Noble Avalokiteśvara, strive in the Vajra Samaya, and even just recite the name and prostrate, one should practice the six-syllable mantra as the heart essence. Noble Avalokiteśvara, Lord of the World.
