Secondly, there are two ways to abandon errors on the path: Secondly, there are two ways to abandon errors on the path: Abandoning liberation without accumulating merit, and abandoning errors about the two accumulations. The first case is: some non-Buddhists believe that even without accumulating the two accumulations, merely realizing various wrong views, indulging in the five desirable qualities without restraint, and pleasing the gods by killing living beings can attain liberation, which is not reasonable. Because engaging in non-virtuous deeds motivated by the three times only generates the suffering of samsara; even if other gods are pleased, they do not have the power to grant liberation. As it is said in the "Vimalakirti Sutra": "The actions of body, speech, and mind, whether virtuous or non-virtuous, sentient beings enjoy their fruits themselves; other gods do not give the results." Also, as it is said in the "Ratnavali": "From non-virtue comes all suffering, likewise all bad destinies." So it is said. It is also said in the "Bodhicharyavatara": "The wicked desire happiness, but wherever they go, that wickedness destroys them with suffering like a weapon." And so on. Similarly, some who claim to be Buddhists also proclaim that all that appears as various conventional phenomena is empty of its own nature. They think that by realizing this, the ultimate Dharmakaya is directly realized. They think, "Now, by the kindness of the guru, I am completely liberated all at once. Therefore, there is no ground or path to be traversed, there is no other liberation to be attained, and there is no need to refute or establish samsara and nirvana. To say that these exist is expedient and false." If one thinks in this way, it is also an extreme. Merely through hearing, thinking, and experiencing that the conventional is empty in its own nature, although one can slightly reduce attachment to reality, how can the Dharmakaya be realized merely by this when the appearance of the apprehended and the apprehender has not ceased? If one can be liberated merely by words without gradually accumulating the two accumulations, why don't the Buddhas, who possess great compassion, teach these extremely easy methods to sentient beings?

What can these countless methods, such as gradual practice and meditation, do? Therefore, it is indeed unconsidered to think that liberation can be attained merely by oral instructions without practicing the path. In the "Stainless Light Sutra," it says: "The practices of oral instructions, none can grant liberation to beings. By what is the path shown? The oral instructions of the Buddhas do not grant liberation. If beings could be liberated by the kindness of the guru, then the compassionate one of liberation would not show it through meditation." And so on. Furthermore, even without accumulating the two accumulations, one can become a Buddha by that alone. If it were to become true merely by thinking so, then some with little merit, merely by thinking 'I am victorious,' should also become true, and so on, there would be many faults. Therefore, those who wish to attain Buddhahood must accumulate the two accumulations of merit and wisdom. The Bhagavan also said: "The one with merit, the accumulation of merit. Wisdom, the great source of wisdom. The one with wisdom knows existence and non-existence. The two accumulations are the accumulators of accumulations." And so on. Second, eliminating errors on the path, there are two:
