Among these, the characteristic is: it is free from the extremes of existence and non-existence, because conventionally it is empty of the grasped and the grasper, and ultimately it is not empty of the element of reality (dharmadhatu); the nature of phenomena, emptiness, pervades all phenomena, so it is not different; the nature of phenomena is unconditioned, and phenomena are conditioned, so their characteristics are not the same, and therefore they are not one either. Therefore, it has the characteristic of being free from both self and other. The two are the real existence of the unreal, the characteristic of the emptiness of things.
