First, belonging to the continuum of a sentient being different from oneself. Second, with the intention to deceive others, knowingly saying that one has seen what one has not seen, or heard what one has not heard, and so on, the motivation to speak. Third, that action manifests as expressive forms of body and speech, etc. Fourth, being driven by any of the three poisons and completed by it. Fifth, the other person understanding the meaning. From these aspects, the path of action of lying is completed.
