In the sutra of "Abandoning the Meaningful," it is recorded: In the past, during the teachings of the Tathagata Akshobhya (Tibetan: མི་འཁྲུགས་པ།), in the land of Varanasi (Tibetan: ཝཱ་རཱ་ཎ་སཱི།), there was a king named Golden Sound Delight (Tibetan: གསེར་སྒྲ་རོལ་པ་), whose power ruled the four continents, possessing twelve thousand vassal states, four hundred queens, eighteen sons, and twenty daughters. Among those princes, the most outstanding was the prince named Beautiful (Tibetan: མཛེས་ལྡན།), who adorned himself with excellent marks and signs, possessed a beautiful form, was proficient in scriptures, and had great wisdom. Through the blessings of the Buddha, for a time, victory banners and flags were erected at the four gates of the palace, and flowers and incense were burned. The prince rode an elephant, ringing bells, cool drums, and hand drums, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of attendants, and went out of the city. All the citizens looked left and right, running and telling each other. The prince's splendor illuminated the places below the Joyful Heaven (Tushita). When he arrived at the east gate, through the prince's power, he saw many lame and blind people in tattered clothes begging. After seeing them, he knowingly asked the driver, "Who are these people?" They replied, "These are the poor and destitute." The Bodhisattva shed tears and generated compassion. Then, he went to the south gate and saw many butchers skinning animals and eating warm flesh and fat raw. The Bodhisattva said, "Alas! What are these people doing?" They replied, "My ancestors have always done such things." Then, the Bodhisattva shed tears. When he arrived at the west gate, he saw many hunters setting many traps to catch birds and wild animals. The Bodhisattva said, "What are these people doing?" They replied, "I live on this flesh and blood." Then, he arrived at the north gate and saw many fishermen casting nets, catching many fish, throwing them on the ground, and seeing them still wriggling slightly. Those people, immediately after death, go to the lower realms, and there is no time for liberation. In order to abandon their sins, please grant me your treasury, O Father. The father said: Son, use whatever you wish. Then the prince rained down a great rain of generosity, and for three months day and night he engaged in giving. Then all of the father's treasury was exhausted, and a palace deity said: If a wish-fulfilling jewel is found in this world, even if it is given away, it will not be exhausted. The prince said: Who has that wish-fulfilling jewel? The deity said: The Tathagata Akshobhya has it. Then, by the power of merit, the prince went to where the Tathagata was, and after prostrating and circumambulating, he said: Lotus blue light endowed, Blessed One! In this world, whatever poor sentient beings, for the sake of survival, destroy each other's flesh and blood. To protect them, I ask you for the jewel. The Buddha took the jewel of the gods and gave it into the hand of the Bodhisattva, invited him to the palace, and prayed to the jewel, causing all sentient beings to be satisfied with a rain of inexhaustible treasures.
