In 1323, on Saturday, the ninth day of the light fortnight of Pausha, a Harasinha Deva, on being expelled from Simraun, by Tughluq Shah, is snid to have betaken himself to the mountains, and to have usurped the sovercignty of Nepal. In Mr, Hodgson’s legendary list of the ancestors of the Simraun Rajds, his father is called S’aktisinha. It appears, trom the Xritya-mahdnava and Vivdda-chandra, that the father of ; Harasinba Deva, chieftain of Mithilé, was Bhaves'a, whose family was styled S’rotriya. But it is nothing uncommon for a Hindu governor to be mentioned by his title instead of his name. Harasinha Deva had a son, Darpa Narayana, who married Dhira; and their children were Chandra- sinha, Hari-nérfyana, and Sulaya. The last was husband to one of the two ladies culled Lakshmi, whose celebrity is due to their connexion with the literature of Indian jurisprudence. Of the three brothers, Chandrasinha Was, perhiups, the eldest; as he is spoken of, by Colebrooke, as ‘‘ reigning prince,” the tenth of his line. Digest of Hindu Law, &e., Vol. I, Preface, p. In the Prayoga-ratna, a work on the sixteen sacrae ments, by Narayana Bhatta, son of Rames’wara Bhatta, its author says that 66 he was assisted, in preparing it, by Ananta Dikshita, son of Vis‘wanitha Dikshita. The father of Bhaya Ganes’a Dikshita was Bhavi Vis’wandtha Dikshita; and, if the latter be one with Viswanathan Dikshita, and if Bhava Gages'’a Dikshita_ be brother of Ananta Dikshita, we ave enabled to form a pretty correct estimate as to the time of Vijnana Bhikshu. For Niriyaga Bhatta’s youngest brother’s second sou, Rag hunitha Bhatta, dates his JCéla- tattwa-vivechana in Samvat 1677, or A. D. 1620. Vijnfinn may be placed fifty or sixty years earlier. Misapprehending the. retrospective reference of the term vikrita, in the twenty-fifth dérikd, M. Saint Hilaire describes‘ pure’ egotism as almost being at once a modification and not modilication. : Egotism, at the very instant of its emanation, assumes three distinct shapes. It would, accordingly, preclude doubt, if the pavticular sort of ego- * tism had in contemplation were always chavacterized by its special epithet.
