The Six Greatnesses of the Early Translation Nyingma The Six Greatnesses of the Early Translation Nyingma ༄༅། It is said that (Early Translation Nyingma) surpasses the New Tantras with six greatnesses, namely: the greatness of the place of the monastery, the greatness of the patrons of offerings, the greatness of the flower offerings, the greatness of the expounding paṇḍitas, the greatness of the translating translators, and the greatness of the translated Dharma. So, in what way does it surpass? First, most of the New Tantra teachings are translated in places of weeds, bird nests, and outskirts of villages, etc., in humble and uncertain places. But the Nyingma teachings are translated in sacred places praised by the Buddhas and blessed by many Indian and Tibetan paṇḍitas, such as the glorious Samye Monastery, etc. Therefore, the blessing of the place is superior. Second, the offerings of later times are mostly narrow in both thought and action, while the lords of the past, such as Manjushri, had vast generosity, aspiration, and prayers, so the glory of the masters of the teachings is superior. Third, nowadays, even offering a small amount of gold or a small amount of wealth is mostly mixed with arrogance and stinginess. But in the past, Dharma King Tsangpa Lha'i Metok, etc., measured gold powder with large bushels and deer fetuses, counted coarse cloth by the load, and silk by the bolt, offering precious possessions without hesitation, so the material of service is superior. Fourth, some self-proclaimed scholars of today are jealous, hide teachings, pursue gain, pretend to be good, and trade Dharma for wealth, etc., having various faults. But the abbot and teacher of the past, and the twenty-five wise ones, etc., all who came to Tibet, each possessed the qualities of being faultless and perfect in virtue, focusing only on propagating the Dharma and benefiting beings, so the object of reliance is superior. Fifth, some translators of today also have phenomena such as belittling others, competing, arrogance, and sectarianism. But the great translators of the past, such as Vairotsana and Ka and Chok, etc., the incarnate great translators, had boundless wisdom, compassion, ability, and blessing, like the sky, so the translator is superior. Sixth,

The later teachings were translated in the manner of collecting scattered teachings after the three invasions of heretics in the holy land of India caused the decline of the Buddhist teachings. The earlier teachings, however, were translated when the Buddhist teachings in India had not yet declined, after considering which teachings were the most profound, which lineage was the closest, and which blessings were the greatest, etc., like the refining of gold and the essence of nectar, therefore the teachings are particularly excellent. That which is distinguished by these six greatnesses is known as the Great Perfection Early Translation teachings. The blessings of the place, the majesty of the teacher, the objects of offering, the learned scholars to rely on, the translators, and the profound teachings to be translated, being distinguished by these greatnesses, are merely different names. These words are nonsense and not to be trusted. However, they are offered to Lokshul Jampal. The Six Greatnesses of the Early Translation Nyingma.
