From the 'Vast Expanse of Clarity': 'The four essential supports are indispensable behind the higher ones.' Although the essential point is not grasped, what is needed behind the higher ones, that is, the four appearances, are: establishing a foundation, measuring, fixing, and the measure of liberation. Among these, the first is establishing the foundation on the three immovable aspects. One should remain immovable in the three ways of sitting of the body. That is, if the body is immovable, the channels are immovable; if they are immovable, the winds are immovable; if they are immovable, the mind is immovable; if it is immovable, the conceptual thoughts that move cease, and one abides in awareness. One should remain immovable in the way of looking with the eyes. Since it is the essential channel of awareness, its essential door, its essential lamp, if the channel is immovable, the eyes are immovable; if they are immovable, the lamp is immovable, thus controlling the arising and grasping of appearances. The expanse and awareness are inseparable. One should remain immovable in the un fabricated state of wind and mind. By this, conceptual thoughts do not arise, and arising and liberation are simultaneous. There is a need to realize the union of expanse and awareness. As the Root Tantra says: 'In that, have faith in the support.
