The Appearance of the Exhaustion of Dharmata. The Appearance of the Exhaustion of Dharmata. Fourth, the appearance of the exhaustion of dharmata is: the self-radiance of the unchanging ground dharmata, the manifest dharmata of the path, the appearance of the great luminosity of awareness being perfected, that is also just an image of the outward manifestation of awareness radiance, not the essence itself, therefore, like the moon in the empty sky naturally waning and disappearing. The self-radiance subsides into the expanse without increase or decrease. The subtle winds that move awareness are also completely stopped. With the four key points, the movement of the winds increases into wisdom, and through the power of the purity of dharmata, the part of the external arising environment of illusion, and the habitual tendencies of the internal arising of delusional thoughts and mental events are exhausted, all the experiences of secret luminosity also dissolve into the inexpressible expanse of dharmata, so that only the spreading of fingers from within the light is visible, and nothing else is seen. Furthermore, there is no essence that clings to appearance and non-appearance, and it is free from the concepts of samsara and nirvana. At that time, dharmata awareness increases and expands in ultimate meaning, and there is no exhaustion and decrease. Because it does not establish the essence of anything, it transcends the mind of thought and expression, therefore it is called the appearance of exhaustion. Thus, there are two ways of exhaustion: gradual exhaustion is the exhaustion after the four appearances have reached their limit. A few extremely intelligent people, just once or twice, familiarize themselves with the manifest appearance, and there is also exhaustion without relying on increase and reaching the limit. In any case, the substantial transforms into light, so it cannot be overcome by the enemies of the elements. Afflictions transform into purity, so memory and the object of memory disappear without a trace. Appearances transform into purity, so the illusions of where to go, where to stay, the appearance of the sun and moon, etc., naturally dissipate without a trace, and even the thought of "it is like this" cannot be established. Therefore, all forms have attained nirvana, and it is called the self-purification of the dharmakaya, and the dharmata reaches its own place. At this time, there is no obstruction to clairvoyance, and it remains only in the clarity of compassion. Other than that, experience, body, senses, conceptual aggregates, words, and all delusions are exhausted, and thoughts naturally dissipate. Because the aggregates are exhausted, there is no turning back, but enlightenment is attained in the light body. As it says in the root tantra: The appearance of the exhaustion of dharmata is, when the appearance of experience is empty, the body is exhausted, the objects of the senses are also exhausted, the delusions of conceptual aggregates.

Thus, it is self-liberated, free from the words of expression." And, "Although the result cannot be spoken, all phenomena have reached their end, and one's own tenets are also destroyed. At this time, the guru's instructions are hidden, the limits of view, meditation, and action are exhausted, and the appearance of the Dharmakaya is neither existent nor nonexistent. Body and wisdom are cut off, there is no Buddha and no sentient beings. In short, there is no place to abide, no going and no coming." Thus it is said. Here, if one wishes to benefit sentient beings by erecting the body of the Great Transference, then because one has power over birth, appearances gradually diminish, fingers appear entwined with light, and by focusing on this appearance, one is self-liberated from the appearance, and the environment and beings appear like the moon in water, like a dream. One's own body appears like a rainbow, but its nature is nonexistent, merely emptiness. Although it is not seen by the impure eyes of others, one sees it oneself, and in it there is no birth, old age, sickness, or death. One can benefit sentient beings with a vajra-like body, like the great teacher Padmasambhava and his consort, and the scholar Vimalamitra. If one is not pleased to perform great altruistic deeds at that time with that bodily form, then because one has power over entering, one enters into the inner space, and again, the radiance abiding in the inner clarity of Dharmata appears outwardly. With the activity of body and wisdom inseparable, one can benefit sentient beings until samsara is empty, like the spontaneously accomplished activities of the three kayas of the Lord Buddha. In other paths and Trekchö, the body transforms into dust particles, and the mind is purified in Dharmata, merely liberated in primordial purity. Thus, transforming into dust particles, the light is clear, and the ability to freely enter and exit both is a unique characteristic of Tögal alone. Thus, temporarily realizing the measure of the four visions, the boundaries of each are separated, and ultimately witnessing the appearance of the exhaustion of phenomena, one becomes a Buddha in the state of no remainder. Conversely, if one does not exhaust in this way, one cannot become a Buddha in the state of no remainder. As the tantra says, "Thus, the arising of the body ceases, and the contaminated aggregates do not appear. In this, one attains perfect enlightenment." And, "If the exhaustion of Dharmata is not achieved, one cannot become without remainder." Thus it is said. The appearance of the exhaustion of Dharmata.
