Examination of Origin, Abiding, and Going. Examination of Origin, Abiding, and Going. Third, the examination of origin, abiding, and going is as follows: Like this, even if one merely realizes that this mind, which clings to "I" and "mine" in meaningless things, has no established object or function and is without inherent existence, still, by observing oneself, one examines and analyzes the nature of this mind-awareness: From where and how did it first arise? Where and how does it abide in the middle? Where and how does it ultimately go and cease? Since none of these are established anywhere, when the antidote of the observer arises, the nature of the observed object, emptiness, must be completely severed. This awareness of the observer, which cannot be pointed out, the nature of individual self-awareness, spontaneously arises as primordial purity and the spontaneously accomplished wisdom. At that time, what is going or abiding? By looking at its nature, the self-power, unobstructed awareness, free from knower and known, is naturally cultivated, thereby revealing the state of primordial emptiness, the original purity. As it says in the 'Attached Liberation': 'Examining everything inside and out, emptiness is liberated.' And: 'If one knows the ground of all to be completely pure, then the meaning of the ground is manifested, liberated in its own place.' Here, it is also the same meaning to realize that the empty awareness of Walpo, which is separated from the determination of the essence, is without trace and separated from attachment. Now, if one thinks that the examination of origin, abiding, and going, which appears as a common preliminary, is a repetition, it is not so. Because the former examines the object and establishes its non-establishment. Here, it is the omniscient Longchenpa's view that it examines the subject and establishes it on the essence. The former is the method of establishing the mind as rootless and baseless, and the latter is the teaching of the reality of abiding equally in the meaning of what has been established, according to the father and son Minling Tertön. These are the guiding steps for generating the meaning of reality that has not yet arisen. Examination of Origin, Abiding, and Going.
