Cutting Through Concepts Cutting Through Concepts Second, establishing the nature of reality. In the "Guidance on the Meaning After Death," it says: "First, cut through concepts; in the middle, seek the mind's weaknesses; then, examine the three sources of arising, dwelling, and going." Among these three as stated, the first is cutting through concepts: Initially, who is the one who experiences pleasure and pain, the one who performs acceptance and rejection, good and bad? Who is the one who wanders in samsara, transmigrating through past and future lives due to delusion? What is the one who attains Buddhahood upon liberation? Do the three doors of body, speech, and mind gather as one, or are they separate? By whom are they performed, etc.? Through observation and analysis, it is determined that the chief and root of all is solely the mind and its concepts, just like recognizing a thief. In "Vast Expanse of Clarity," it says: "The one and only basis of all samsara and nirvana." And in the "Guhyagarbha Tantra," it says: "The very nature of mind, without a base or root, is the root of all phenomena." Thus it is said. Similarly, in the Dohas, it is also said: "The single nature of mind is the seed of all; from it arise existence and cessation." And so on, the meaning is the same. Cutting Through Concepts
