Taking Vows. Taking Vows. Fourth, taking vows is, as stated in the Root Tantra of the Sound Transformation, "The vows depend on empowerment. Although it is difficult to express the details, in brief, protect the body, speech, and mind." That is, not exceeding the meaning of what is to be protected, with the thought of restraint together with the seed syllables. If classified, all the root and branch vows, when summarized, do not exceed the vows of body, speech, and mind. In particular, for the number and target of what is to be protected that have not yet been established, the absence of primordial protection, binding, and restriction is the most supreme of vows. As it says in the same text, "For the great (protection) that is primordially without protection, there is no arrangement of successive boundaries of protection." And, "Because it transcends all boundaries of protection, it is said to be the pinnacle of all vows." As it is said, the Vajra disciple who possesses the characteristics should also bravely undertake difficulties, not spare effort, use the three doors as servants of the Guru, take the general and in particular the vows of primordial protection, and please the Guru through offerings, the practice of the three doors, etc. The details are explained separately.
