And among those who desire liberation, there are two: those who desire liberation for their own benefit and those who desire liberation for the benefit of others. Thus, there are only these three types of individuals. Therefore, the noble Asanga said in the commentary on the Mahāyānottaratantraśāstra, \"In short, among the assembly of sentient beings, there are these three types of sentient beings: those who desire existence, those who desire to be free from existence, and those who do not desire either of the two.\" Among these, those who desire existence are the inferior individuals who seek only the happiness of samsara. Those who desire to be free from existence are the intermediate individuals who seek only liberation from existence for their own benefit. Those who do not desire either of the two are the superior individuals who do not desire the happiness of samsara or mere liberation from existence for their own benefit, but rather desire the supreme liberation that does not abide in the extremes of existence and peace—the complete enlightenment of Buddhahood—for the benefit of others. In terms of the Dharma to be attained by these individuals, the noble Nagarjuna said in the Ratnāvalī, \"For the vessel of the sacred Dharma, the accomplishment of Dharma arises. Who is it? At first, there is excellence, and later, definite goodness arises. Why is excellence attained? Gradually, definite goodness comes.\" Here, it is said that all the Dharma to be attained is included in the two: higher realms and definite goodness. Higher realms refer to the happiness of gods and humans, which is the Dharma to be attained by inferior individuals. Definite goodness has two aspects: the enlightenment of śrāvakas and the enlightenment of pratyekabuddhas, which refer to mere liberation from existence and are the Dharma to be attained by intermediate individuals. The enlightenment that does not abide in the two extremes of existence and peace is the Dharma to be attained by superior individuals. There are no others besides these three. Therefore, the means of attaining them" } ] ============================================================

Furthermore, the Sutra taught by the noble Inexhaustible Intellect states: "These three are the vehicles that will definitely lead out, namely: the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and the Great Vehicle." As it is said, the two vehicles of Hearers and Solitary Realizers are called the Lesser Vehicle because they are similar in that they cultivate liberation for their own benefit, and are the path of the middling person. The Great Vehicle, the Perfection Vehicle and the Secret Mantra Vehicle, as Jowo himself said in the Lamp for Compendium of Practice: "Relying on Secret Mantra Perfection, one cultivates enlightenment." Since the Lama Buddha said so, its meaning is written here. Like the vehicle for cultivating complete enlightenment for the benefit of others, it is the path of the superior person. The path of higher rebirth, which is pursued by the small person, is taught as a side note to these, so all the Dharma taught by the Buddha is included in the path of the three persons. All of these, Jowo, relying on the instructions of the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, made it possible to gradually generate them in the mindstream of one person. Therefore, the twelfth throne holder of Lho Drak Yul, the precious Tsultrim Gonpo, said: "The great Jowo, with the power of extremely profound instructions, gathered all the teachings of the three baskets and the four tantras, and created this path of stages for one person to practice on one seat." In general, if this path of stages of Jowo can be practiced with one mind, then Dharma will arise. If it cannot be practiced with one mind, then there is no way for Dharma to arise. Among them, if one does not take impermanence and death to heart, then all virtues will turn into faults. If one takes this to heart, then all faults will turn into virtues. Therefore, this is the general establishment of the instructions. First, the way in which all the Dharma taught by the Buddha is included in the path of the three persons.
