Explanation of the Cause for Accomplishment. Explanation of the Cause for Accomplishment. Because the cause for accomplishment is to be discussed, all sentient beings are the very essence of excellence, and upon the three—renunciation, realization, and the three—there is the self-arising of the three great ones. This is called the "Cause for Accomplishment." Thus it is said. Now, this cause for accomplishment is threefold, namely: the very essence of greatness, the very essence of renunciation, and the very essence of realization. Why is it that, by virtue of the very essence of greatness, the Bhagavan is called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva? Because when asked why he is called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, starting from the cause of the application of the term Bodhisattva Mahasattva, it is said that it makes the great mass of sentient beings, the great division of sentient beings, the eightfold, and so forth, excellent up to the point of non-retrogression. The great mass of sentient beings is the collection of sentient beings. "Great" means immeasurable. Even one who enters samsara without beginning becomes great, hence the term "mass." The division of sentient beings is distinguished by the division of those who have entered and those who abide in the fruit of the path. If asked what are the dharmas by which all sentient beings will become excellent, the answer is: Thereupon, Subhuti, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, generates the vajra-like mind, and it is said that he will make all sentient beings excellent. Now, generating the vajra-like mind is this: thinking, "For the sake of all sentient beings, I shall don armor in immeasurable samsara," thus undertaking immeasurable samsara, and completely relinquishing all possessions, as it is said, "I shall completely relinquish all possessions." Having equanimity towards all sentient beings, and even though they are completely liberated by the three vehicles, there is no complete liberation. Why is that? Because by realizing that all dharmas are without birth and without cessation, and because the mind of omniscience is unmingled, therefore, in the six perfections

It should be practiced. The term "unmixed" refers to the words that are not mixed with the mind that desires the Hearer Vehicle and so on. One should train in the complete accomplishment of realizing that everything can be abandoned, and one should train in realizing that all dharmas can be manifested as one. And from all sentient beings born in evil destinies, for the sake of each sentient being, vowing to personally experience their suffering until they are completely free from suffering, and then to perfect one's own accumulation, desiring the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. From the moment of first generating the mind, not generating afflictions such as desire, and not generating the mind that desires the Hearer and so on, is the great mind. Not being arrogant with the mind that possesses all-knowingness is immovability. Protecting all sentient beings and never abandoning them, and not being arrogant about this, is the mind of benefit and happiness. The so-called dharma refers to whatever is the indivisibility of all dharmas. Whatever is joy and extreme joy in this dharma is the joy of dharma. Whatever is meditating and repeatedly practicing this dharma is universal joy in dharma. That is, joy in dharma, universal joy, diligence in the yoga of universal joy, and all emptiness, from the dharmas of the path to enlightenment to the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha, and the vajra-like samadhi, like the sky, without attachment, liberated and without defilement, abiding in a non-attached manner, thereby becoming the supreme of sentient beings. This refers to the bodhisattvas who abide in the Perfection of Wisdom, in what place they abide and become the supreme dharma of the great assembly of sentient beings and the great class of sentient beings. Therefore, the bodhisattva is called a great bodhisattva. The Blessed One spoke thus. Speaking with the freedom of great abandonment, what the Venerable Shariputra said, showing courage, is: Blessed One, starting from the view of self and the view of sentient beings, up to the view of annihilation and the view of permanence.
