The word "da pa'i" is like the letter "A." In the chapter on mantras in the Hevajra Tantra, it is said, "akāro mukhaṃ sarva dharmāṇāmādya nutpannatvāt (अकारोमुखंसर्वधर्माणामाद्यनुत्पन्नत्वात्त, akāro mukhaṃ sarva dharmāṇāmādya nutpannatvāt, A is the face of all dharmas, from the beginning unproduced)," and so on. The meaning here is that since all dharmas are unborn from the beginning, "pa'i" is the main gate. The letter "A" is applied as the nature of unborn. Similarly, in the "Namasangiti," it is said: "A is the most excellent of all letters, Of great meaning, it is a sacred letter. Arising from emptiness, unborn and unceasing, Transcending the realm of verbal expression." Or, here, "A" is the seed of selflessness. As it is said in the Hevajra Tantra, "āli prathamo nirāmaya (आलि प्रथमो निरामय, āli prathamo nirāmaya, Āli is the first, without self)." Through these, all mental activities will be called selflessness and therefore without inherent existence. The first is the nature of vowels. "Wisdom" refers to the measure of wisdom. That is precisely the wisdom of the Bhagavan. It is the union of the completion stage. Or, "A" is the word of clear light. Mental activity is the word of blessing oneself. This is both "A" and mental activity, therefore it is non-mental activity. Through it, the state of non-mental activity, the inconceivable, pervasive clear light, the nature of blessing oneself, emptiness, and the undifferentiated great compassion, the realization of the union, the non-dual continuum, will arise.
