《The Distinguished Differentiation of the All-Ground》 6-214 《The Distinguished Differentiation of the All-Ground》 The Fourfold Division 《The Distinguished Differentiation of the All-Ground》 Oṃ, may there be good fortune! I prostrate and take refuge in the five wisdoms and ten powers of the all-ground. Now, I will explain some of the consequences of the distinguished differentiation of the all-ground: There are things that are the all-ground but are not consciousness; there are things that are consciousness but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this has four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground but are not wisdom; there are things that are wisdom but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground but are not Buddha; there are things that are Buddha but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground but are not noble beings; there are things that are noble beings but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground but are not marks and signs; there are things that are marks and signs but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground but are not conditioned; there are things that are conditioned but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground but are not virtuous; there are things that are virtuous but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground and are prophesied; there are things that are prophesied but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground but are not grasping and being grasped; there are things that are grasping and being grasped but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. There are things that are the all-ground but are not conceptual thought; there are things that are conceptual thought but are not the all-ground; there are things that are both, and there are things that are neither. Therefore, this also abides in four possibilities. 6-215 Similarly, with mundane and supramundane, contaminated and uncontaminated, unspecified, and so forth, there are many. One must thoroughly understand that all abide in four possibilities. One must also certainly understand the categories that abide in three possibilities. 同样地,诸法的法性(chos rnams kyi chos nyid),法界(chos kyi dbyings),法的实性(chos kyi gnas nyid),法的无垢性(chos skyon med pa nyid),如是性(de bzhin nyid),无谬如是性(ma nor ba de bzhin nyid),非异如是性(gzhan ma yin pa de bzhin nyid),正边际(yang dag pa'i mtha'),不可思议界(bsam gyis mi khyab pa'i dbyings)——这九种不变的圆成实性(yong grubs dgu),以及安住于阿赖耶三种三类之中,应当了知。 Now, regarding the categories of the three triads: There are cases that are the Alaya (kun gzhi, the basis of everything) but not the ultimate truth (don dam, ultimate reality). There are no cases that are the ultimate truth but not the Alaya. There are cases that are both and cases that are neither. Therefore, there are three categories here. There are cases that are the Alaya but not the Dharmakaya (chos sku, the body of the Dharma). There are no cases that are the Dharmakaya but not the Alaya. There are cases that are both and cases that are neither. Therefore, there are also three categories here. Similarly, the Dharmata (chos rnams kyi chos nyid) of all phenomena, the Dharmadhatu (chos kyi dbyings), the reality of Dharma (chos kyi gnas nyid), the faultlessness of Dharma (chos skyon med pa nyid), Suchness (de bzhin nyid), non-erroneous Suchness (ma nor ba de bzhin nyid), non-other Suchness (gzhan ma yin pa de bzhin nyid), the ultimate limit (yang dag pa'i mtha'), the inconceivable realm (bsam gyis mi khyab pa'i dbyings)—these nine unchanging, perfectly established realities (yong grubs dgu), and abiding in the three triads of the Alaya, should be understood. The Tathagatagarbha (bde gshegs snying po, the essence of Buddhahood), self-luminous nature (rang bzhin 'od gsal), self-unchanging nature (rang bzhin 'gyur med), self-born great bliss (rang bzhin lhan skyes kyi bde chen), the sixteen Suchnesses (de kho na nyid bcu drug), the twelve truths (bden don bcu gnyis), the profound cessation of suffering ('gog bden zab mo), Nirvana (myang 'das) great bliss, luminous great bliss, Madhyamaka (dbu ma) great bliss, Mahamudra (phyag rgya) great bliss, co-emergent union (lhan cig skyes sbyor), Buddha's equal union (sangs rgyas mnyam sbyor), supreme yoga (shin tu rnal 'byor), supreme non-elaboration (shin tu spros med), the nature of lineage (rang bzhin gyi rigs), Dharmakaya (ngo bo nyid sku), profound Prajnaparamita (shes phyin zab mo), self-arisen wisdom (rang byung ye shes), Samantabhadra (kun tu bzang po), Vajradhara (rdo rje 'chang), Kalachakra (dus 'khor), Hevajra (bde dgyes), Guhyasamaja (gsang 'dus), and so on, the deities of ultimate truth, as well as mantras, tantras, mandalas, mudras, skillful means, wisdom, emptiness and compassion, power, fearlessness, and so on, all unconditioned qualities, the pure lands of ultimate truth, the four continents, and so on, are extremely numerous. If one can well understand abiding in the three triads of the Alaya, one will become proficient in the reality of all phenomena. Therefore, may all sentient beings understand correctly and truly, thereby adopting and abandoning accordingly, and may they also widely and correctly reveal it to others. This was also composed in accordance with the perfect stage by the impartial one with the seven virtues. May this also benefit the Dharma and all sentient beings! May there be auspiciousness! So be it! Proofread! (The original is an old edition from Drepung Monastery, with both a 421-page woodblock print and a 154-page handwritten version.)
