The Noble Spell Called "Eye Purification" The Noble Spell Called "Eye Purification" In Sanskrit: Āryacakṣurbiśodhani nāma vidyāmantra. In Tibetan: The Noble Spell Called "Eye Purification". Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling among the Shakyas in a certain beautiful town of the Shakyas. At that time, in a place called Statu-sa, there was a Shakya named Shakya-deva who had great faith in the Buddha, great faith in the Dharma and the Sangha. He had gone for refuge to the Buddha, gone for refuge to the Dharma, gone for refuge to the Sangha. He was single-mindedly devoted to the Buddha, single-mindedly devoted to the Dharma, single-mindedly devoted to the Sangha. He had no wavering or doubt about the Buddha, and no wavering or doubt about the Dharma, the Sangha, suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path. He had seen the truth, obtained the fruit, and become enlightened. He was one who had abandoned weapons and sticks, and he lived there, but visible and invisible forms did not appear to his eyes. Then, he developed faith in the Buddha, the Blessed One, and kept him in mind. He paid homage to the Buddha, the Blessed One! He paid homage to the Buddha, the Blessed One, who makes light, holds the lamp, and holds the clarity! He entreated the Sugata, who is endowed with great compassion, "Please illuminate! Having heard them, he arose from that samadhi and spoke to the venerable Ananda, "Ananda, go and protect Shakya-deva with this spell of eye purification. Completely take him in, completely protect him, completely nurture him, bring him peace and well-being, avert calamities, avert weapons, destroy poisons, kill poisons, set boundaries, and bind the earth. Likewise, do these things for the fourfold assembly, the monks, the nuns, the laymen, the laywomen, and other sentient beings."

Also, purify the eyes! Purify the vessels of the eyes! Make the eyes free from defects! Tadyatha. Hili mili, kili mili, hili te mili, huya huya ha a mani, hulu hulu hulu hudu hudu hudu. Caksur me visodhaya svaha. (Sanskrit: Caksur me visodhaya svaha, Romanized Sanskrit: Caksur me visodhaya svaha, Literal meaning: Purify my eyes, svaha!) Ananda, this king of vidya-mantras, which purifies the eyes, eliminates eye diseases, wind diseases, bile diseases, phlegm diseases, and diseases caused by aggregation. By the truth of discipline, the truth of asceticism, the truth of the sages, the truth of dependent origination, the truth of suffering, the truth of the origin of suffering, the truth of the cessation of suffering, the truth of the path, the truth of the arhats, the truth of the pratyekabuddhas, and the truth of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, may the eyes of Shakyamuni be peaceful and without obstruction! May there be no tearing! May there not always be tearing! May the eyes of myself and all sentient beings be completely purified, svaha! Ananda, this king of vidya-mantras, which purifies the eyes, was spoken by six perfectly enlightened Buddhas. I will also speak it now. The Four Great Kings, and Indra, the lord of the gods, and Brahma, the lord of the Sahā world, also rejoice and praise it. Ananda, if someone recites this vidya-mantra three times a day, then whether it becomes blurred, or the vision is blurred, or there is a cataract, or the eyes see blue diseases, or the faults of the eye's object caused by gods, or caused by nagas, or caused by gandharvas, or caused by yakshas, or caused by rakshasas, or caused by flesh-eaters, or caused by curses, or caused by zombies, or caused by zombies and curses, or caused by wanderers, or caused by wanderers and zombies, will not occur. In the world of beings including gods, demons, Brahma, shramanas and brahmins, and gods, humans, and asuras, I have never seen such a thing, it is impossible. The venerable Ananda heard the teachings of the Bhagavat.

The Blessed One replied, "So be it." Then, grasping these foundations of secret mantras and fully comprehending them, he went to Shakya Devakara and spoke to him in detail, "The Tathagata has transmitted to you these foundations of secret mantras for purifying the eyes. Please remember them three times a day." As soon as Shakya Deva heard this, his eyes were immediately purified. With purified eyes, he saw everything with immaculate eyes. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the venerable Ananda, Shakya Deva, and the world, including the gods, rejoiced and praised the words of the Blessed One.
