In Tibetan: The Essence of the Noble, Limitless Life and Wisdom. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling on the bank of a pool surrounded by the Ganges, together with a great sangha of five hundred bhikshus and a great sangha of Bodhisattvas. Then, the Bhagavan addressed the bhikshus, saying: Listen, bhikshus! The Bhagavan spoke thus to them. From here to the west is the realm of Sukhavati. There dwells a fully enlightened Buddha, known as the Tathagata Amitayus. Whoever utters his name will be born there. At the time of death, the teacher will appear with the sangha of bhikshus. There are no women there, nor is there any birth from a womb. From lotus flowers of precious jewels, great miracles will arise. Food, clothing, medicine, and robes, bedding, and bowls will appear immediately upon being thought of. The Buddhas residing in the ten directions praise Sukhavati. Thus, the qualities of the Buddha are inconceivable, the Dharma of the Buddha is also inconceivable, and the sangha of noble ones is also inconceivable. If one has faith in the inconceivable, the ripening of karma is also inconceivable, and one will be born in a pure land. The son of Amitayus is called Moonlight. The attendant is called Immaculate Melody. Monks, the foremost in wisdom of the Tathagata Amitayus is called Excellent Crown. The foremost in miraculous power and the foremost in great diligence is called Great Adornment. Monks, the Mara of the Tathagata Amitayus is called King of Offerings. The name of Devadatta is called Delight. Monks, the great assembly of Shravakas of the Tathagata Amitayus consists of sixty thousand great Shravakas. Monks, all sentient beings should think well, hold well the name of the Tathagata Amitayus, meditate without distraction on the remembrance of the Buddha for ten days, and constantly remember the Tathagata Amitayus who dwells in the Sukhavati world. This dharani called the Glorious King of the Drum Sound of Immortality should also be constantly recited. Three times during the day and three times during the night, prostrate with the five limbs, and if all sentient beings think of the Tathagata Amitayus, then after ten days have passed, they will see the Tathagata Amitayus. On the left is the Bodhisattva Mahasthamaprapta, surrounded by countless Bodhisattva retinues. Any son or daughter of good family who has strong aspiration, faith, and reverence for that place will be born there, miraculously born in a great seven-jeweled lotus on a golden land. Monks, whether it is a monk, a nun, a male lay practitioner, or a female lay practitioner, if they can perfectly hold the name of the Blessed One, the Tathagata Amitayus, they will not experience the fear of fire, the fear of water, the fear of poison, the fear of weapons, the fear of yakshas, the fear of rakshasas.
