At one time, the Blessed One was wandering in the land of Magadha, and having gone to the Mango Grove, he dwelt in the cave of the Lord of the Mountain of Lofty Form in the Mango Grove. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, went to where the Blessed One was, and having gone, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat to one side. Having sat to one side, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, the Asuras and humans are those who harm the Dharma. Blessed One, the Asuras and those who do not belong to the retinue are enemies who oppose for the sake of harming the Dharma for a long time. If the Blessed One cannot subdue them with peaceful means, please teach me the Dharma of subduing them with fierce means. Please speak of protecting the Dharma of the Vehicle from enemies. Caused by earth, caused by bile, caused by phlegm, caused by aggregation, causing destruction by using behavior violently, strife and, argument and, exposing shortcomings, all completely pacifying the Iron Beak Dharani, the fierce sky-shaking Dharani, hold it! Fearing harm to the teachings, the Dharani for causing heavy rain and heavy hail should be recited. Tadyatha. Ete mete. Prame tritri. Gole vole leve se. Motte. Padate. Kharatte. Kharane. Gana gane. Recite it! Tell it! Do not pass it on to others! Secretly recite it! Do not recite it in common. Secretly recite it invisibly like the water of the sea turning into stone! With this fierce Dharani that cannot be overcome by others, whether it is strife or, argument or, battle or, wherever one goes, one will always be victorious. Write the mantra on the top of the victory banner, whether it is a son of a lineage or a daughter of a lineage, one must be single-minded. A Bhikshu father and, a Bhikshuni and, a Shramanera father and, a Shramanerika or, a Upasaka father or, a Upasika mother, whichever one, in order to eliminate harm to the teachings, with one mind.
